I have personal experience w/4 pre-E4 STG's (appx 6K rds total) and must say this is the best handling carbine I've ever owned (AR's, AK's, HK's, Mini-14's, etc), I'll never go back to anything else. Adjustable gas system, runs clean, very short & manueverable (especially in tight quarters), mag changes can be surprisingly quick and MSAR's CS is excellent.
Biggest downsides (IMHO) are the typical bullpup trigger (which improves w/use & MSAR is coming out w/a match hammer pack in the near future) and you have to be careful w/your optics selection to be sure the optic and mount don't snag your fingers when working the E4's leftside charging handle. Note how the 517's leftside control buttons allow me to mount the Eotech as far back as possible so there's no interference when working the charging handle:

| I was at the range yesterday with my new E-4. It ran 100% with 5.56 reloads, factory new (both brass) & Silver Bear zinc cases. Aside from a heavier trigger pull (until I get a natch trigger pack) it ate the center of the bull out at 100 yds. I know I can do better with the match trigger pack. No problems with Pmags & MSAR mags. Next time I'll take some other brands to confirm fit & function. |
