How good is the integral scope they come with?

Does anyone have a picture taken through one?

How do they compare with other optics that are available?

My impression is that they are "ok", nothing special but work.

For the time being MSAR is no longer selling rifles with the integral factory optic.

+1      Not much more than Simmons quality glass, small FOV, no illum.  The reticle is pretty nice, and quick.  But there's no BDC to it.

Here's 2 bad pics today:

Control shot through my dirty window

Bad shot through the scope.  It's the only one that wasn't blurry  The scope is actually a little clearer, and the FOV is slightly better.

Somebody has to have better pics!

an even crappier picture.  The scope is for nostalgia for me.  It will be replaced down the road but I will always have the ability to go back to it.

Beerswimmer are you in the CG or just your neighbors?

I'm in, stationed in Kodiak. It's base housing   I think I'm the only guy on The Rock with a bullpup

I was the only guy on Baranof Island. (Sitka) w/ a bullpup for a while.      Every time it rains, I miss Sitka.

Okay,  I am in Valdez.  Apparently Kodiak housing looks a lot like Elmendorf.  If you ever swing by this way give me a holler.  You won't be the only one with a pup.

This. There's better glass out there.

I got mine because it was $250 or so, I can't afford the ACOG I really want right now, and I LOVE the look of the old A1s.

Some day I'll get a ACOG on there, but by then I'll probably just buy another STG since I love the A1 look so much.

I like my E4 scope on my STG, it's a good height and it's the way the rifle "should look" from the factory.  It's also nice that it doubles a handle.

Granted it's a simple scope, but sometiems simple is better, no batteries to go out.

I do plan on getting a rail and a better optic, but I'll keep my stock scope as a backup.

Is MSAR working on a new scope design or have they decided to just stick with railed models?

I like the clean look of the A1 style weapons, but I have a railed model. Maybe if they make the objective a little bigger and keep it in a similar style housing to the original?

Not that I know of, just think they're dedicating their efforts to other things at this point.

i am VERY glad that i chose to go with the railed version. I use a DMS-1 for daytime and dusk shooting, and a 390 palidin nightvision scope for pig killin after the sun's gone away

The rails is MUCH more versatile.

I called Ratworx and they were told by MSAR the scope was being temporarily stopped in production while they try to improve it and make it more appealing to consumers. I assume that means it's never going to see the light of day again.

IIRC, MSARDave has said the scope is dead. IIRC as well, it was too costly to make, and most most people didn't want it anyway and went with rails.

I really like mine but.......it would have been the cat's ass to have the cross hairs light up
Like my ps90's with the USG sight.

I may be the minority here, but I personally love the factory optic. It certainly has its limitations - and there are definitely better optics you can put on these - but I didn't have to drop and extra grand for a Trijicon to get an effective and versatile optic, either. I've found mine to be absolutely deadly out to 100 yards or so, and even better for small, moving targets between 15-60 yards. Doesn't hurt that it has back up iron sights on it that work great in conjunction with a laser & flashlight in tight quarters, too. So, yeah, there's better glass you can put on one, but none of them are essentially free.

From what I was told by Dave, they will no longer make the original optic- apparently (and this is my understanding of the reason, not Dave's direct words) it was too expensive to make compared to what they could sell the optics equipped models for in today's market.  He said they may consider making an optic in the future, but it would be at least a year or more out.
