I met a gentleman out at the range recently who was shooting his new MSAR E4.  He was kind enough to let me shoot a magazine through it.  I noticed he was using Charter Industries steel mags with the gun and asked him about this.  He told me that the gun had initially given him some feeding problems with the factory magazines.  He switched to the steel mags and the gun had been working perfectly ever since.  I had a couple Tango Down ARC mags with me and they would not fit into the mag well.

I've got a green E4 on the way and am looking forward to trying it out.  Anyway, I wanted to ask about using various M16 magazines in the rifle.  From what I've read, the Lancer mags won't work either.  I'm assuming there are no issues with PMAG's, since I've seen a number of pictures on the 'Net with Magpul magazines in use.  What else will or will not work, from personal experiences?

TIA.

Mostly right, PMAGS work great, the MSAR supplied mags gave me problems, they may need a breaking in period.  I thought I read here somewhere that there may have been a bad batch of mags from MSAR, though I lost the thread.  C Product aluminum mags worked well.

Buy some P mags or GI mags.  The lancers and TD mags are both excellent mags, but that rib prevents them from being used in our rifle.

Is it just a slight amount of material keeping the mags from seating?  Would it be an easy fix to auger out the mag well a little?  I usually suggest modifying the cheapest part but it would be nice to have a rifle that was compatible with two of the more popular magazines.

If you already have the mags, that's one thing.  If you don't, why bother?  How often are you going to be in a situation where you don't have any mags, no loose ammo, and someone gives you a mag that's rather rare given how many of every other type is in circulation?

Just something to ponder.

I do already have the mags.  I've got about a dozen of each.
