Anyone have both of these rifles and want to give me an accuracy comparison at 100 yards?

Or, if you have MSAR and Steyr and think one is substantially more accurate than the other, can you chime in there?

Thanks for any feedback from people who've really compared the accuracy of these platforms side by side.

Curious that you should bring this up. I performed this very test last weekend.  I was shooting my FS2000 tactical and my MSAR E4 with 16" barrel.  I had a Trijicon TR24 1-4 (set on 4x for the match) on a QD mount that I switched out between the two guns for the purpose of comparison.  I was shooting Lake City M855 ball and also PMC M855.

I had a 3x5 white index card set at 100 yards inside a black 100 yard NRA bullseye target.  One the scope was adjusted correctly, I never failed to keep all of my 10 shot groups inside the 3x5 card with the FS2000.

There was enough vertical dispersion for the MSAR to have about 1/4 of the impacts just outside of the top of the card.  Though never out the sides...

I also performed the RWVA AQT.

Score with the FS 2000 was 221

With the MSAR 213

SO pretty close... but the FS2000 Tactical wins in the accuracy department... at least by my testing and with my gun.

Thank you!

The 1:7 twist barrel on the FN is nice too.

Does anyone know the twist rate on the MSAR?

1:8 twist for msar, save for about the first 100 barrels which were 1:9

I can't comment on the FS2K but yesterday while sighting in a Burris Tac30 1-4x (center dot is 2.4"@100yds) on my 16" STG-556 I shot this final 10-shot group at 100yds using Prvi Partizan M193, the group measures almost exactly 2"x2":

So far the most accuracy I've gotten from my 18"HB STG556 has been this target from yesterday.
Shot 20 rounds 75gr Tula with an NcStar 3-9x @ 100yds
Red circle is 6" diameter

Not as accurate as my AR's, but I'm still quite happy with the results.

To be fair the MSAR doesn't have a free floated barrel, it's not that the MSAR isn't capable of accuracy.

Resting the foregrip, folded or unfolded on anything can have an adverse effect on accuracy... The FS2000 has a free floated barrel that nothing comes in contact with during rest shooting.

From what I've read, the FS2000 isn't exceptionally accurate despite the fact that it has a rigid barrel while the AUG/MSAR does not.

my MSAR E4 has thus far only gotten down to about 2MOA, and this is with the 20" heavy bbl (ihave 2 barrels) and a Leupy VX-3 scope set at 10x

Maybe it is me, but if I can't do something more than this, I am going to sell.  I could have 3 AR's that shoot rings inside this thing for the price paid for it.

That's the trade-off for having a quick-change barrel system.

If the parts were available from FN or some other manufacturer, the FS2000 would have "swappable uppers" just like the AR, and could probably be tuned for DMR and other applications [yes, I still want a 20" fluted match 5.56 barrel for my FS2k without having to cannibalize my existing 17.4" upper].  The uppers as they are now are acceptable as "combat carbine" accuracy.  YMMV

I have a Standard FS-2000 and MSAR STG-556 (AUG magazines), both with the factory optics zeroed at 100 yards.  A while back I had the opportunity to shoot at a range that has man sized steel silhouette targets out to 500 yards.  I got bored with hits at 200 yards and wanted to see just how far out they would hit, 300, 400, then 500.  We were astounded when BOTH rifles were making constant hits off the bench.  Point of aim was the head of the silhouette, not sure where they were actually hitting, but we could hear the hits.  Of course, a 5.56 at 500 yards would merely make a bit of a nuisance out of itself.

i'm sure they are both more accurate than you are able to shoot them. these are not bench rest rifles but rifles designed to hit man size targets at distance. both will do this as designed.

I'm able to get better groups at 50 yards with the MSAR, simply due to the nicer trigger.

I still prefer the FS2000, though.

I agree that's a nice feature in theory but I would argue it ceases to actually "be a feature" in real life if you can't ever get any other barrel to actually "switch with!!"

But without it you can't act out that scene from Die Hard:

My STG has a 20 inch bbl with a 1.5x4 Leupold Mark AR scope and I can do five shot groups at 2 MOA.

Thats shooting slowly, and trying my best.
