Hey guys, I had a few questions about a pair of Varo
PVS-5C's that I recently purchased.  Below is the info
printed on each tube.

The Left Tube says the following:

Intensifier, Night Vision
Varo, Inc.
Garland, Texas 75040 USA

Serial No. 5743203 88 07

The Right Hand Tube says the following:

Image Intensifier, Night Vision
MX-9916/UV NSN 5855-01-034-
Contract No. DAAB07-86-C-E03---
FSCM No. 66868 US
Serial No. D0 86 62 --

Where I have dashes, it's very hard to make out some
of the numbers.  Can anyone tell me if these are standard
2nd Generation or Gen. 2 Plus?  Also, the Eyepieces
when you extend the objective lenses have a white
placard which gives the serial number NSN numbers and
the Varo Inc. Logo on them.

The tube on the left has smaller halo diameter and a slightly
greener image than the one on the right, but they are very closely matched and provide the same output brightness.  They both have warranties that expired in 1987 and 1988.

Any info or history about the goggles and it's tubes would be
appreciated, I'm really happy to have these, they work well for my purposes.

At a guess they are early gen2+ tubes, I've got a set of pvs-5's from 88 that are gen-2+. You might email ed wilcox with the serial numbers and he can tell you for sure.

Thanks for the info Harlikwin, I appreciate it. :)

Actually, I've E-mail Ed a few times over the last few weeks with this info.  I never get a response from him

I don't know if my mail is getting through, or if he's just really busy, etc.  I've heard he's the MX-9916 guru and would like to hear from him.
