Initial Range Report.
MY gun club had it's Friday night trap shoot practice at 6:30 last night so I hurried up to go out there to try out the 716 before that started. I also had some 55gr HP flat base "work up" loads I needed to chrono in my 516 too.
I got out there at 6:00 so I quickly set up some targets at 100 yards for the 5.56 chrono loads and a couple targets at 50 yards to check zero on the 716. I only had a few boxes of Federal Gold Medal Match 168gr ammo at the house so I picked up some PMC 147gr NATO ammo at the gun shop on the way to the range. The only targets I had available were the cheap Wal-Mart bullseye type and no proper zeroing targets. After a quick set up and getting done with shooting my 5.56 reloads through the chrono I got the 716 out and loaded up a mag of the PMC to get it zeroed. I started at 50 since i had no idea where it would be grouping. I hadn't done anything as far as cleaning to the rifle. It seemed fairly well oiled when I looked it over the night before. The only thing I did was center the windage adjustment on the rear sight before taking it to the range.
I fired 6 shots at the 50 yard target with using the factory sights. and got this grouping.

No I don't shoot with iron sights very often and with the sun setting to my left it wasn't the ideal set up, but I couldn't wait to try this gun out. The low right shot was the first "fouling round" out of the rifle. I shot 3 more and they seemed pretty well on to me when looking through my spotting scope so I shot two more.   I  shot the rest of the mag at a steel plate target at 200 yards. All of the paint had been shot off the target and it was getting had to see. I could see the still while pole holding it up so I aimed just above it getting hits on all but maybe 2 shots.
I let my daughter shoot a few shots through it next and she loved it.
Next I loaded 5 rounds of the Federal GMM 168gr ammo and shot this group on my only other 50 yard target out there. A lot of dust was getting kicked up from the backstop between me and the other guy on the line shooting his AR15 at the same range.

Like I said, I don't shoot iron sights very often and the short time I had and the setting sun didn't help, but I am very pleased with the results l got. I am going to mount an optic on it and get it back to the range soon. I really want to see what this rifle is capable of.
My observations:
The gun has a very solid feel. With the friction lock on the Magpul ACS
stock there is no wobble at all in the stock, and the accu-tensioner in
the lower, there is no slop between the upper and low. Just a rock solid
feel through the hole gun.
No malfunctions of any kind.
Trigger is a little heavy but not too bad for a factory AR trigger.
It was right on the money with rear sight centered. I mad no adjustments to the sight at all at the range.
Accuracy was better than I expected given other reviews. I am really excited to see what it will do with a decent scope on it.
If you find one for under $1800 I suggest you get it. I don't think the
price will be coming down on these, and they seem more likely to be
going up recently.  Damn glad I got it and didn't hold out for the
Precision Marksman version. Although I may get one of those when they
come out too.

Here is a short video my daughter took while shooting some PMC at the 200 yard steel target. You can hear the first 2 hit the plate, then the next the hit the holder, and the last one miss.

Way To Go Swimm!!!  I have not fired mine yet but I pur a 1.25X4 VXR Fire Dot on it so I can zero it in. Another guy here had one at our local indoor range with a 3X9 40mm Luepold and he was able to get just under  1" 5 Shot group at 50 indoors on his first try.

Hmm, I've been waiting for the Colt 901 to come out but the more I read about the SIG 716 the more I like it.  I may have to rethink the Colt.
