I just bought one of these tools but have not yet received it. Mag Lip Adjustment Tool There is a chart on their site giving optimal Front and Rear Feed Lip dimensions for many magazines including .223 mags, but unfortunately not 7.62x39 mags. I've asked them to update their list to include mags for the Mini-30 and perhaps others. ETA: Specs for 7.62x39 feed lips are: "Gap specs are .395" front/ .410" rear". The video on their site is useful. If the tool can save a single mag, the tool is likely paid-for. Will report back after tool is received and used. Cross-posted in the other "usual" Mini forums. I don't know, are those guys still on afcoms shitlist? Hard to keep track anymore. It looks like a swell tool for what it is. The only use it would get from me though is pistol magazines. A bad ar magazine wouldn't even be messed with but tossed. The fix for a couple of mini30 magazines was rounding out the front of the magazine so rounds wouldn't catch there. Back in the ban days I had 3 of those really bad stamped sheet metal ar magazines. This tool wouldn't have even fixed those junkers though. |

This tool wouldn't have even fixed those junkers though. Your call on how to use the knowledge/tool. I am thrifty enough to give repairing most magazines a shot, and this tool will make it easier. I have had more experience than I'd like in Re-habilitating some non-factory Mini-14 magazines, and this tool seems like what is needed to do effectively and efficiently. Naturally, there will be a "learning curve". The dimensional chart on Mfr's web site seems EXTREMELY useful in conjunction with the tool. This is the first time I've seen such a chart, and the absence of info about the (usually different) Front and Back magazine feed lip gaps might explain the inability of some folks to fix some magazines. Early days yet using this tool, but if it saves one mag from being tossed, then the tool will have paid for itself. YMMV, but I don't like "tossing" any magazine, if fixing it is a reasonable proposition. Sometimes possible, perhaps with new spring, or improved follower. Like most Civilians, I don't have "Uncle Sugar" to provide me with new, free mags. This tool PLUS the chart of feed lip dimensions, makes additional magazine repairs possible. IMHO, every mag "fixed" and returned to even "range use" is a slap in the face to the Anti-Gunners. |
