I currently have a 36 gun Cannon safe that is rapidly filling. Right now, all my mags for pistols and rifles are stored in my safe. I view them as prized investments just like my firearms and want to protect them as well. I figured up the cost of the mags and with the possibility of them only going up in value (Dems) or replacement cost, is was wise to store them in the gun safe. I have heard varying comments on taking up space with mags. How many of you store mags in your safes, and what are your thoughts on this? I will probably have to pick up a new safe in the next few months, just because I can't see leaving them out. I am actually thinking about getting another safe that will hold mags and ammo. Just the loss of the 4000 rounds of Q3131a that I have would more than pay for a new safe. |
| I am in the same boat. I currently leave ammo out only. Although easily replaceable- at what cost these days? l could use another safe and think it's a good idea. I would think it is better to have two than one real big one as you could split mags, ammo, & firearms among both. That way a potential thief has to break in twice to get everything as opposed to just one safe. |

I am thinking about getting the 2nd safe and placing it right beside the other. Bolting them together once in place, and using the new one for mags, ammo, and some of my kids firearms. Once in place and bolted together, there would definately no way to remove them from the house without taking a wall out... |
| This is a quandry for me as well. i also checked with the NRA gun insurance program--if your mags, scopes, etc. are stolen but not the rifle, then they are not covered. the gun that the accessories belongs to must be stolen to replace the accessories. SO, if, like many people, you barely have enough room in the safe and the scopes, mags, etc. are elsewhere, your accessories get stolen but not the guns=no replaced accesories. |
