A family member sent me this pic. I guess a guy at his work forgot to take the boresighter out before firing. Lucky guy.

You need to email that pic to Mythbusters.

They where trying and trying to duplicate that exact condition.....and because they couldn't they called  "busted" on the Myth that you could grenade a barrel like that.....

HOLY SHIT!!!

That looks cool but i bet wasent fun to witness close up.

Wow.... What a dumbass. LoL.

U gotta be either pretty stupid or pretty drunk to forget to remove your boresighter before firing the rife.

Seriously.  I watched a video from the 1980s where some guy took modeling clay and shoved it down the barrel of an H&R shotgun and split the barrel just like that.  The Mythbusters didn't do too much research on that one.

Yeah alot of the mythbuster tests have big holes in them. That show is cool if you dont have much common sense.

I've seen several gun barrels split just like that when they were fired with an obstruction in the muzzle. I stopped watching "Mythbusters" after the stupid shooting into water one. IMO, they did that test all wrong too. I don't think they really know much about firearms, but like to act like they do. Plus, I didn't watch the episode, but someone said they trashed an M1 Garand in one episode. That just makes me furious!

PWND!!!!11!!1!!!!

They've used an M1 on several gun related episodes, but I've never seen them do anything damaging to it. I no doubt haven't seen every episode either though.

That's not the way you're supposed to to make a SBR.................

They fired it underwater IIRC.

I hate to see that happen to anyones rifle but you gotta admit it's a keepsake.

Hang it right up on the wall next to the deer heads

By the way what caliber was that rifle?

That sucks.  What a waste of a perfectly good bore sight.

Thats a pretty extreme flash hider!

Mythbusters hammered a steel bar into the bore of a shotgun till it was extreemly tight. It did nothing to the barrel. That is more extreem then mud or a softer object. If you guys are so smart dupilcate what the Mythbusters did and proove them wrong.....you will fail.

+1.  The underwater one blew up the shotgun.  The M1 was fine being shot underwater.

I would imagine the gun will still fire.??? Albeit not quite as accurate. That would be an attention getter at the range.

Did you not look at the picture at the beginning of this thread. Obviously, a rifle barrel can and does split like that.

As to the part of your post I highlighted in red, no thank you. I don't feel like sacrificing any of my firearms. Maybe you could supply me with your guns for testing.

I know it happends. Just seemed like some guys were calling the mythbusters stupid guys when in fact they are pretty darn smart.

They may be smart, but their expertise is primarily in special FX for TV and movies. It is true they don't know much about firearms. They called the M1 Garand an "assault rifle"! IMHO, that is a stupid thing to say. I think they may even be a bit anti-gun because of that statement.
