this board is kind of slow so i thought id start a new topic. any ATF literature on this availbale? I know to purchase HE givin you could find a source, it would be an additional $200 for a DD and require a storage magazine out in the middle of nowhere. lets pretend we have a magazine, and theres no source, to manufacture HE which would take a $200 Form 1. would that be all the authorization needed? or would it require a different explosives manufactureing lisence. i wont even go into chemicals and materials but just say that maybe some pyrotechnics that consist of a charge larger than 1/4 ounce i think is the legal limit. what rounds require the additional $200 tax, HE is obviously a DD but what about the factory made buckshot rounds, not explosive but still very destructive. or do the HE rounds take a different tax, since the DD is already registered wouldn't it be a tax for a purchase of explosives instead of a DD? And would it require an explosives technical lisence or anything to make that purchase? Im really just fishing for information, kind of like a SOT can make as many Class 3's as they want, for around 3,000 a year on a manufacturing lisence, rather than pay over 14,000 for a single m16. |

I really doubt that you would want to make your own HE rounds even if it were entirely legal. Go over to Grog's 40mm site and take a look through his safety section for the picture of the thing that used to be a human hand. Have fun with the non-explosive payloads like the buckshot, smoke, batons, chalk, etc. that don't require you to pay any additional taxes and are legal to use in a registered DD. Joe |

another big thing with HE/explosive is transportation. I don't know a whole lot, but i do know that you save alot of hassle by making them and setting them off at the same location. That's how tannerite is used. Once it is mixed, you aren't supposed to transport them. |

yes it does sound like a lot more toruble than its worth. but howcome i see these "explosive experts" and "holloywood pyro artists" do this stuff all the time for the mythbusters or some scientific reality show and it seems like they do it on a whim and with relative ease. i know it comes with years of experience and a buttload of permits and stuff but yea. It just dosent seem like that big a deal |

Yes, this is far more trouble than it's worth. If your concept of reality is based on TV shows, that's further evidence that you shouldn't be playing with explosives. Edited to add: OK, that was a little harsh, but I strongly urge you to forget about building HE projectiles. |

consideration noted, what did you want to be when you grew up? I could attempt to change my calling at anytime, EOD/ordinance officer in a few years? could have some viable civillian job applications. edit- to add, if its so hard to do tell me what it takes to be "that guy", not why it would be idiotic to make it in my bathtube which i do not intend to do. |
