Sorry for the double post in the Precision Rifle forum Mods, if needed, please delete there, instead of here....

OK......Well, being stationed on a military base, such as myself, poses some hurdles to a reloader/fire arms enthusiast. I will be going home on Thanksgiving and on my way back, will be bringing along a rifle or 2. Ive found a few storage units that will allow me to store my weapons there, some higher security than others, but one thing persists.

For probably good reason of liability and insurance, noone wants you to store components, ie. powder/primers. One storage facility owned by a fellow Marine, retired MSgt. told me if I bought a shed, he's allow me to reload in it, on his property.
Sheds are expensive, as are reloading components now days...so I dont know which route to take...Store my weapons in a secure facility, and shoot factory ammo for a few years...(which is even more expensive than reloading), or just buy a damn shed and reload on this gentlemans property? More $ upfront investment, but may even out over 3 years?

Buy an old van to store your stuff in.  That can't be any less secure than a storage unit, and a damn sight better against intrusion by moist tropical air.  Add some steel strong boxes to keep everything secure.

They're cheap enough, too.  You could even set up a loading station inside, and if you get a conversion van you can live in it on the weekends.

That would be awsome for the range.... To bad I just got set back nearly $5,000 on a new rifle set-up....

EDIT: You know, the shitter is a fine place to contemplate.....

AeroE, you mentioned a van used for storage/work area. I have a pick-up truck with a hefty size tool box on it....big enough to reload out of....On my time at home I could make a mount inside my tool box that my press could bolt onto, would be pretty quick with some wing-nuts. Kepp all my cleaning equipment in my truck....

A few plastic ammo cans with a seal on them and some desicant packs I could keep my dies, bullets, brass and various stuff in. If I could store primers and powder in a van, I could do the same in a truck....Keep primers in a desacanted ammo can in the tool box, and powder in the cab....a pound or 2 would be fine dont ya think?

Ive also got a big tarp-shade cover big enough to cover the bed of my truck, with enough room to walk around under for shade...

All I'de have to do is get out to the storage unit, pick up my rifle(s), get to the range   at the crack of dawn, or as soon as they open, set everything up, reload for an hour or so...and have a nice range day...

What do yall think?
