Is there any place that I can piece together a .22 and then have it shipped to a gun dealer? I know I can just buy one off the shelf and then customize it, but it seems as if that would be more expensive.

You'llhave buy the serial numbered received from an FFL holder or have it shipped to one.  After that, no holds barred!  You'll fine the Ruger 10/22 is second only to ARs in the number of after market custom upgrade.  If you get a 10/22 you can spend a little or alot, depending on your desires and budget.  Do a web search on "10/22 accessories" and see what I mean.

Brain frat!  Forgot to mention, check the local want ads, gun shops, and pawn shops.  You can often find a used 10/22 for $100 - $150.  That'll get you started.  These guns are easy to work on yourself.  Check out http://www.eabco.com/ for a few "how to" tutiorals and you'll see.  Have fun.

Yeah, I'll check out the local dealers, thanks.

I am thinking of what I want but I have to piece it together myself. I have an AR so I figure a .22 is next in the rifle category.
