| Hello everyone, quick question im looking to get a repo cleaning rod(cant find any originals under 40) and there are two differant sizes 10'' and 12'' i have a 1939 243 k98 which one is correct thanks! |
| Honestly it depends. Unless you gun is 100% number matching, the date and manufacturer won't help you, as the stock was most likely swapped out. Best way to determine the cleaning rod length is to get you a small dowel, or a coat hanger and stick down the hole and measure it. Also if you know what you are looking at when you take the action out of the stock, you can see where the cleaning rod screws into a nut imbedded in the stock, where it is located will also tell you length. |

Thanks for the quick reply i just measured it via coat hanger it measure exatly 8" flush out the hole and 10'' at the end of bayonet lug. |

if you have a flat buttplate stock ( what a 1939 is suppose to have ) then you would need a 10" rod. if the stock were replaced with a later "cupped" buttplate then the odds would be the longer cleaning rod, updated in 1941 +/- a few months Yes it does have the flat buttstock, but looking pictures when i google 1939 mauser all of them have the cleaning rod out past the bayonet, lug are all these wrong should it be flush to the end of the lug? EDIT: google images probably isnt the best source so just to be 100% postive 10'' is correct? |

Ok so i will need the 12" then thanks, not related to cleaning rods but is it possible to remove the front metal circles on the forearm of the stock without damaging it? Do you mean the recoil cross-bolt? If so, it's possible to remove them, but not recommended unless it needs to be replaced. |

Exactly. I learned that the hard way. |
