When you measure a barrel to determine SBR or not, is it the length of the barrel from the reciever to the end of the flash surpressor? or Is it the length of the barrel in it's entirety such as when it's detached from the upper reciever? |
You remove the flash suppressor and any other removable devices that extend the overall length. Then you check to make sure the chamber is empty, close the bolt, drop a cleaning rod down the bore until it touches the bolt, and mark the spot on the rod where it emerges from the muzzle end of the barrel. The distance on the rod between the bolt face and the muzzle is the legal length. If any muzzle devices are permanently installed to BATFE spec (welded, high-temp silver soldered, blind pinned and welded over, etc) they obviously cannot be easily removed, and so you measure with them still attached. |
