I read somewhere (can't remember where) of some people using stainless steel media for polishing brass Anyone in here try thisI found a site that sells a "jewelers mix" of stainless media and was wondering if was worth it to try out, and if it can be used in a Vibratory tumbler

Any insight would be great, thanks guys.....    J.D.

That sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Three outcomes are likely -
- the first is steel particles imbedded into your brass,
- the second is rust all over your brass from the steel, and
- the third is verdigris all over your brass caused by galvanic corrosion with the steel.

Give it a try.  Look at the brass under a bright light and magnification before running it through any of your reloading tools.

After looking at the shapes the machine and jewelry industry are using, I would say you'll hate it the first time you have to dig a bunch of stuck steel media out of the inside of cases.  Another thing I don't like about the idea is the burnishing effect on the brass; this will work harden the neck and shoulders of brass, although it won't be through the thickness, the surface will have compressive residual stresses and that will cause the work hardening from shooting the cases to be accelerated.

Makes sense to me... I'll pass the idea off as a no-go. Thank you..

Good choice.

Go with walnut or corn cob.

Or both, you can use walnut for the heavy cleaning and for the bling you can use corn cob
