What type of bandages and equipment do you guys recommend for a personal aid kit?

Say something to treat yourself and one other person. SHTF senario, gunshot wounds?

SHTF=no professional medical aid available
Gunshot wound=game over, thank you for playing.

Best you can do is TONS of gauze and direct pressure (and pray it didn't hit an artery)..

Trauma bandages, nasopharyngeal airway, a catheter for tension pneumothorax, and (depending on your AO and EMS reponse times) turniquets.

Go to Tactical Response Gear and look for their VOK. It has what you need.

Allow me to be the first to say that if he doesn't know what should be in a good kit then he doesn't have the training necessary for airway insertion and CERTAINLY not a catheter for tension pneumothorax,..

LOL

Yeah, I agree, I'm not going to be inserting anything in anyone's airway.

I have some basic skills I picked up in the Infantry, but nothing like that. Just wondering about bandages, tourniquets and such.

I carry 2 of the Israeli trauma bandages and a tourniquet at the range or for matches. That kit also has gloves in it and some band-aids. BSW

Trauma kits aren't always used by those carrying it, the airway, or the cath may be used on you, not by you. The V.O.K. with some celox, or quikclot is a good start to an IFak.

4x4s, 3" cling, gloves, buch of crevats (I make them cheap from unbleached muslin), space blanket, Sport packs of Quick Clot, med tape, duct tape, pack this in one gallon zip lock bag.  The bag can be used as an occlusive dressing.  Some people carry the airways and catheters just in case, they are on their for someone else to use.  My 2 cents, get advanced training or leave the toys at home.
I was an EMT for a number of years (lapsed now), with this kit I can deliver BASIC First Aid in the event of traumatic injury such as GSW.  In the event of such an injury stabilizing and getting to a surgeon is paramount (Golden Hour).  If it is a real SHTF situation, DONT GET SHOT because all the shit in your aint going to help.
