only insomuch as getting some clarification and more info. Got a description/price list back from him.

Ordered a kit on March 14.  Waiting to see it or hear back.  I'm right at 6 weeks today.  Hopefully will be soon.

I ordered some stuff on Feb 19 and am still waiting. His wife recently emailed me an apology and an explanation. Apparently he's had some equipment problems and is overwhelmed with with far more work than he'd anticipated. Hopefully I'm pretty close to the top of his stack by now.

Hmmmm.  Not good.

I was expecting the quoted 45-60 days- we'll see.  Please repost when yours arrives and let us know how it is!

Getting dimensions out of him is like pulling teeth. I wanted just two numbers, the OD and Height. Simple as that. A couple things have me backing away. The lead time is one of them. The big one is he wants tubes not purchased from him sent to him to fit.
5/7/2016 4:43:31 PM EDT
[#7]
Well I can understand the tube thing if he's making cones for you.  Probably doesn't trust the average guy to run a dial caliper and probably wants to make sure the tube is round.  On the other hand a set of agreed upon dimensions with him not being responsible if they don't fit should be easy enough.

If he's a one or two man shop running a single lathe and/or single mill I'm sure he's busier than a one legged man in an ass kicking contest.

If he's a "down to the ten thousandth" kind of guy I'll gladly wait a few weeks extra.

The SD Tac Ti tubes have a slightly larger ID than the MagLite.

I just don't relish sending off the spendy Ti parts and not see them for another unknown time frame. I have access to a lathe to final fit and trim for length. Which would allow me to work with different stack spacing.

Yes, he is a one man show. Really got caught off guard with the response to his vids.

There are tons of people on other forums posting about his lack of communication after payment is received and going well beyond the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and so on promised ship dates. Here and there someone posts that they (finally) received their order, but the majority have not after waiting forever, on top of not getting responses for weeks at a time.

He used to accept PayPal but stopped doing that. My assumption is because he kept getting disputes filed and chargebacks from CC payments. Now he only accepts cash/check/money order/et al where you have no recourse if you never get the items and want your money back.

There's also an issue regarding his claim to be making cones for "several" licensed suppressor makers. He named one specifically in the past (Ron Bishop), someone on another forum contacted him and he said he's never used any of the guy's parts, only discussed the sizes and pricing. Take that however you will, it's only one person claiming they investigated and that's what they heard. If that is true, though, I also question his claim that someone dumped 500 rounds through a can using his cones and only saw a couple of inches of spread as the cones started to fail towards the end.

*part 2*

Also, for someone claiming to be so overwhelmed with work and orders he seems to have a lot of free time to setup, film and post videos to YouTube promoting his service/products. If it were me, I would get caught up before trying to get more orders than I could handle as it is by wasting shop time on videos. Now... what is interesting is I just watched all of his videos over the past couple of days, there were a handful, and as I write this there is only 1 video on his channel. I'm not sure why he would delete them, but they are no longer there.

I was interested in his cones for my first build and e-mailed him a few days ago. He responded within 3 hours, answering some of my questions and included a price list. But after finding all of this out, there is too much doubt for me to feel comfortable doing business with him. At least until I see that he's delivering on the orders.

Think I'll e-mail him about my order then followup with paypal if I'm not satisfied.  It's been 10 weeks since I paid him.  No way I'd send him funds with no recourse.  I'll keep you posted.

I just im'd Rodent from above to see if he got his stuff.

I think PayPal only lets you have 45 days to make a claim. That used to be the case, unless they have changed their policies.

SDTA Ti tubes are presenting a problem for those making parts for them, there is to much variation between tubes.  They are using 1.5x1.36 tube stock and just cutting and threading it.  Diversified Machine and Apogee tubes are machined and a consistent size.  If you get a Apogee tube it from 1.327" stock and opened to 1.350" and DM is using opening them to 1.350" 1.36 or 1.375" (or whatever you order).  The earlier SDTA tubes I saw were always 1.3600-1.3605" range, but people have posted them down to 1.356" now, and some people have parts that have to pressed through parts of tube but are loose in sections of the same tube.  DM is having the same issues making 80% parts and spacers for them.  I think you will get your order, he is having the same influx of orders that troubled DM.

There are several people reporting on another board that he does not respond to inquires regarding paid orders, but he is apparently responding to

About to look into the paypal solution.  I will update as it progresses.

1 week is enough to wait to get a damned reply after an 11 week wait for something promised in 45-60 days.  I e-mailed AND called and left a voicemail.

If you can't take care of customers you need to stop taking orders until you catch up then move forward.  Pretty f*@&ing basic common sense.

How can people be so damned inept at running a business?

Just looked into it.  Get the following from paypal:

Be aware.

not trying to piss on your parade but PP might tell you to FOAD when it comes out that the transaction is firearms related and they might close your acct.  Course they might close his too so he might have an incentive not to spill the beans in teh dispute.

Sorry it took me so long to answer, I was off on a canoe trip.

I'm at 100 days now, and nothing. I just sent him an email.

His latest correspondence:

"Order Status:
This is a general form letter in response to inquiries about when you are going to receive your order.

For the FIRST WEEK of June we are starting to fill orders made in the first and second week of MARCH. If you are a February order please send me and email titled FEBRUARY ORDER so I can get right on it.

Medlining Machine Works is a licensed LLC. You are not going to be cheated out of your money. I have not kept one dime of someone’s money that wanted to cancel their order because they couldn’t wait any longer.

PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOUR ENTIRE ORDER WAS WHEN YOU PLACED IT AND HOW YOU PAID FOR IT. LOOKING IT UP TAKE “TIME” WHICH IS WHAT I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH OF.  I am “NOT” taking on any new customers so I can get caught up with my current orders. I have taken all videos on YouTube down but one.

I have over 700 active orders I’m trying to fill.

PLEASE ONLY INQUIRE ABOUT YOUR ORDER ONCE EVERY 30 DAYS BY ONE COMMUNICATION “NOT AN EMAIL AND A TEXT MESSAGE, AND A PHONE CALL.

The answer I give you will be a GUESS because I can only give you an idea of what I plan on making this current week.

If you have sent me an order through the mail and the wife has not sent you an email in response to us receiving it please address an email titled “DID YOU RECEIVE MY ORDER”. This will help with sorting through the 40-70 emails we receive each day.

If your order is over 90 days and there are a few, please address it as “90 DAY ORDER STATUS”. There are a few that have very custom requests I’ve failed to finish.

If you have received conformation that we have received your order then it is in the wife’s order binder. If it was an order made through PayPal then we both have record of your order.

If the order was mailed to us the wife keeps the envelope, the letter if there is one and makes a copy of the method of payment, and all of that goes into a clear plastic pocket folder and into her order binder for orders of that month.

On your cover letter it said 30 days or 45 days or however long, that was an ESTAMATE.

Don’t believe everything on Facebook. My challenge to you is to find that one person that I cheated AND LET ME KNOW WHO IT IS. Because they do not exist the only thing I’m guilty of is taking to many orders and being slow because I’m a husband and wife operation.

I have made a partnership with a successful firearms related internet retailer and in June they will be selling my product line at “CURRENT MARKET PRICES” for solvent traps.

Dude is a goofball.

First he says for June he's filling orders received the first two weeks of March, then states in the same paragraph that if you ordered before that you need to let him know so he can, "get right on it."  Well doofus, you're not building March orders if you haven't filled February orders- Or you're an idiot of the highest caliber.

Then he wants you to tell him what you ordered, when you placed it and how you paid for it because, "Looking it up take TIME WHICH IS WHAT I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH OF."  I suppose records, calendars and alphabetizing escapes this "entrepreneur".

He says he has 700 active orders but apparently can't find or account for any of them because he doesn't have time- Then in the last paragraph he states he's partnered with an internet retailer who will be selling his products he can't produce or find the orders for and is 700 orders behind. I predict that will work out really well.  In fact I think that's EXACTLY what I'd do if I couldn't produce enough and didn't have sense enough to be able to sort out my business- I'D MAKE ARRANGEMENTS TO TAKE ON EVEN MORE thereby digging my hole deeper and faster.

And he states you can only inquire once every 30 days by only one communication method.  So, if you haven't heard anything in months he only wants you to try to communicate by one means- even though he hasn't bothered to confirm your order, state a completion date, update you on his lack of progress or notify you of shipping?  How's that for customer service?

Do not make my mistake- Do not order anything from this idiot/crook.  He is either one or the other and nobody needs that headache.

This guy is going to explode, implode or flame out shortly.

"You will need to send me a $15.00 payment cash or money order ONLY in order to get your products sent back to you!"

My reply said that if I didn't have a refund and my property by 15 July, I'd file fraud complaints with the Ohio Attorney General Consumer Protection Division, Paypal, the U.S. Postal Service, and the Better Business Bureau.

Stay tuned.

The Medlins are thieves, plain and simple. I finally filed fraud complaints with the Post Office, Better Business Bureau, and the Ohio Attorney General Consumer Protection Division.

Here’s the necessary information if you’d like to do the same:

Medlining Machine Works
Daniel T. and Michelle Medlin
965 Bethel Rd.
Marietta, OH 45750

Cell Phone 740-350-4777

[email protected]

Here are the appropriate fraud complaint forms - filing them may at least prevent more people from being ripped off:

https://www.bbb.org/consumer-complaints/file-a-complaint/nature-of-complaint/

Here’s the contact info for the county sheriff under whose jurisdiction he falls if you’d like to report your money, machine parts, and/or your Form-1 suppressor stolen:

Well, interesting update: I just got a profane, frothing-at-the-mouth voicemail message from Dan Medlin. He is outraged that I wasn't more fair and patient with him. I had given him two weeks to return my money and my property from my February order.

When the deadline passed, I contacted his Sheriff's department (see my post above) and reported my Form-1 suppressor stolen and a Deputy visited his house.

He mailed my tube and end-caps back, but kept my money.

I contacted the Ohio Attorney General's consumer complaints division, and he's been ordered to pay them directly, after which they'll forward my money back to me.

He is not a happy camper. The dude's got himself a serious victim mentality, and can't conceive that any of the mess he's in is his own fault.
