I just saw a report about "Micro Serialized Firing Pins" . The conclusion of the report is as you would think...it don't last long....I wondered if any other analysis has been done or any other type if firearm ID has been tested?

The simple fact that firing pins are so easily changed is the bigger problem. As well as brass from a shooting range being tossed at a crime scene...

So what happens when you break a firing pin? Or the criminal takes a nail file and files the pin down slightly, or goes to the range before the crime picks up a bunch of random casings and tosses them around the crime scene.

Then there is the whole issue of how long does this microstamping last on the end of the firing pin?

Serialized bolt face.
For revolvers, something on the rim of the cartridge from the cylinder.

But yea, Fuck that and pick up your brass.

Can I get a firing pin that has this on it...

I guess that would make the old "file down the firing pin" actually useful.

It's not about crime control or solving crimes it's about politics, especially out here in Kalifornastan.

Well if they stopped letting illegals wander their streets, that would help

How's the old saying go: Gun control's not about gun's; it's about power.

Do these do-gooders and power whores obviously have little concept of the way in which both firearms and criminals work.

I remember reading years ago that Beretta spent a fortune trying to develop "smart gun" technology,
i.e., guns that could only be used by the authorized owner. Beretta R&D folks concluded that it was
basically not possible to incorporate into a firearm that would still be dependable and fully functional.
At the time, there was a lot of talk about such a thing becoming law. If I recall correctly, this was  in
or around the Joycelyn Elders era. She was the Clinton-appointed, "safer guns and bullets" lunatic.

All of the ideas I have heard concerning micro-stamping appear to be simple to defeat, meaning in reality they would accomplish nothing more than making gun ownership more complicated and expensive.  But maybe that's the real goal.

100% about politics.

If they were actually, you know, serious about reducing violent crimes, they'd increase sentencing, stop plea bargaining, and limit the length of time between conviction and the needle.

There is already micro stamping.  Anyone familiar with forensics can tell you about how they match spent casings to firearms from machining marks on the breech face.  Imposing more restrictions on firearms with bullshit like this is another means of punishing the end used with higher costs in order to deter them from purchasing.  It's not about crime, it's about punishment.
