Try and talk me out of it. Any better built AR type rifles in that price range($800ish)? Note:I don't want to build my own. |

Spend a little more and get an RRA middy. Or buy the higher quality rifle for less money. My first AR was an Armalite Middy and it was an excellent gun. My go-to rifle is made of almost entirely Armalite parts, spare the FCG and H-buffer. Armalite has recently switched to mil-spec barrel steel, has a mil-spec diameter receiver extension, better quality staking on the BCG(at least on mine), and if it has the two-stage tactical trigger, it will have an awersome trigger pull. If you prefer a mil-spec FCG it can be easily swapped and the Armalite can be kept for a precision rig or sold on the EE for more than the cost of a standard unit. Armalite is only topped by BCM, DD, Colt, and Noveske, but leaves all other lesser brands in the dust. |
| My first AR was an Armalite (M4A1C), back when they were Eagle Arms. The chamber was undersized and it wouldnt run for shit. Then I found out, it was an unregistered SBR because the idiots forgot to pin the flash hider. Then, when the AWB sunset, I bought an AR10C (hell a lot can happen in 10 years right?); it wouldnt run for shit either. Out of spec bolt carrier assembly; went back to the factory and they never got it right. I'm sure a lot has changed in the last 5 years, but I'm not going to risk it. If I had $800 to spend on a middy AR I'd buy a CMMG 16" Govt. middy upper and whatever lower I could find cheap from the EE. I've had very good luck with CMMG. |
