I could go for one that's similar to the BCM Gunfighter shape/texture personally. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/v/vspfiles/assets/images/gfh-bottom-view-of-mod-3.jpg I wouldnt. I have a BCM MOD4 charging handle on my Noveske SBR and love it but the smooth rounded shape of the new SCAR handle is very nice as well. You dont need the extra "grip" like on the BCM. Maybe something not as aggresive would be nice.... |
| Im interested if the factory handle would hold up to frequent forward assist functions. The stem is hardened but the handle part is aluminum threaded and loctited(I think) to the stem. Could be pressed. I would think FN has done alot of torture testing though. A forward assist is one aspect I looked at when I made mine. The modern arms piece is nice though. |

The new charging handle works even better as a forward assist. Its got a flat rear side that doesnt dig into your palm, much more surface area. The factory charging handle IS NOT ALUMINUM! It is a pressed on plastic spool! Why do people think its aluminum? The new MA handle is stainless shank and an aluminum shoe. Whens the last time you used forward assist? Its better to pull back and get a new round anyway..... |

You are right its not aluminum. I assumed it was anodized aluminum because of the part function. As for needing forward assist: I used it last time I shot. I was letting my brother in law shoot it and he was pushing the charging handle instead of letting it go to chamber the first round. I saw what he did and had to push the bolt into battery to grab the round. NEVER assume! Ever. I thought you were a machinist too? Anyway the forward assist was never designed to overcome bad technique. As I said if you cant chamber a round pull it out and let a new one in. If that round doesnt chamber you got chamber issues not ammo and a forward assist (in any weapon) will just buy you a jamed weapon. As I said, I think the forward assist is a relic and not needed 95% of the time..... |

Iam not talking about dress up soldiers either. |
