Who makes the best 556 can for repeatability and the least POI shift. This would do douple duty on an highly accurate AR and a bolt gun.

Thanks!

Sandman S with a 5.56 end cap.

Direct thread or QD?

Full auto rated, or precision?

Material, or length desired?

QD preferred and one which doesn't need to be shimmed. Pretty sure I won't be shooting full auto out a bolt gun or an accurate AR.

Thunderbeast Ultra 7 223 CB.  Use the flash hider mount and you won't need shims.

I would echo. Not to say offerings from rugged, dead air, and others are bad choices but I have been impressed with the Thunderbeast cans I have used. And if a frequent higher rate of fire isn't happening then TBAC is good especially at around 10oz

Gemtech trek t. Super light, minimal POI shift, and quite durable. Bonus you don't have to buy several mounts.

Crux Saxon 5.56 but it meters around 141db but is dead on at 100 yards that's all I can test it at.

Take some of that money and have the barrel cut/re-threaded by a precision rife smith that can hold the runout down to as small as possible (e.g. Mark Gordon of SAC threads barrels concentric to 0.0002" to the actual bore).

The barrel is more important than the can.

That's who I plan on sending the bolt gun to.

True, but in the past, I've had issues with both.

The same shift across weapons, or the same individual shift per weapon?

If money is no object, why not get dedicated cans for each rifle?

Regarding accuracy, I'd start my search looking at Thunder Beast.  One of the owners, Zak Smith, knows his way around a precision rifle.

You realize that everyone is just going to post what they own and most do not have a large sample size?

That being said:

Consistency, best to worst:
Surefire SOCOM RC
Gemtech G5
Allen AEM5

(the allen also has some hot/cold shift)

POI Shift, best to worst:
Surefire SOCOM RC <1 MOA to 1.5 MOA
Gemtech G5 1.5 to 4 MOA
Allen AEM5 6 to 8 MOA

(POI shift varies by rifle, averages shown, groups at 100Y. SOCOM and G5 have each been checked on more than 3 rifles)

For fun:

Back pressure/gas blockback, best to worst:
Surefire SOCOM RC
Gemtech G5
Allen AEM5

Sound (to ears, not metered), best to worst:
Allen AEM5
Gemtech G5
Surefire SOCOM RC

To the firer, the Surefire is noticeably louder than the other two. The other factors, to me, outweigh this and I would keep it over the other two.

Maybe you got a lemon AEM5. I though they were supposed to be near zero shift and very little blowback. Interesting

It has the smallest bore of the three and is subjectively the quietest to the ear...seems like blowback and sound often run in opposite directions.

POI shift may be an anomaly. The suppressor contacts both the brake and collar leaving a lot of room for parts interface and harmonics...only have one douglas MK12 profile barrel to test. It is relatively consistent across POIs (no suppressor hot/cold, suppressor cold, suppressor hot) and seem to group tighter with than without.
