SA Loaded came in a few days ago and I'm very happy with it. If it ever dries out here I'll get it to the range. Now questions:

1. Are the stripper clip mag loaders any good? Especially has anyone tried the 10-rd clips from DSA? (I always use strippers/ spoons with my AR)

B. What kind of grease do you use? I haven't ever used grease on any of my other rifles.

Third, a tag attached to my rifle states it is headspaced (1.631") to current GI specs and to only use GI mil spec ammo/commercial equiv. What does this mean with respect to choice of ammunition? (I know about 7.62 vs .308 and read the tacked thread but don't under stand the part on "... a tight 1.631" or 1.632". You're on your own in this length")

Finally, who can recommend for or against the leathewood hi-lux mount, or are there any other SOLID low sitting (below iron sights) mounts available?

Thanks to all who reply.

On the stripper clips .......I just load mags by hand . Its only 20 rounds and their a lot eayser th handle that 556.

Grease .......I use moly wheel bearing grease , ya dont need much .( Dont put any oil/lube on the gas piston !!)

My M1A is at 1.631 also , Shoot SA surp or I reload with a Small Base die and trim -.05 under spec ....no problems yet .

I say try the leatherwood and report back.  I've not heard any bad, and I've not really heard any good.  I only "heard" about it.  No one has seem to got one yet that posts on this board.  I was debating about getting one myself.

Alright, maybe I will... the reviews on midwayusa were not all that helpful. I wish the customer had function tested it rather than say they "felt" it was a good mount

Same headspace as mine.
I had the ARMS mount and sold it.
I now have the Smith Enterprise mount. I like it a lot.

Good Luck

Here, I copied this from boricua9mm's post:

I'm using the Smith Enterprise Weaver mount (part #2024). It should be around $117 shipped. Without a doubt, this is the best value in a mount for the M1A. There were no issues at all mounting to the non-Milspec Springfield receiver. The rings I am using right now are the Warne permanent steel rings. They are heavy, solid rings that are also affordable.

Same thing as I am using, rings and all.
