I am looking at getting one of the Mosin Snipers that classicarms is selling for 400. Does anybody have any experience with these? I am just trying to get a decent scoped rifle that is accurate for cheap and I have a ton of 7.62x54r. Is there a better alternative for about the same price? Thanks!

If you are not hung up on it looking original go find a nice 91/30 locally with a good bore and a scout mount and a nice pistol scope. You can have a scoped 91/30 for half that money.

Mine

in before someone says get a savage.

Savage, or pick up a $100 91, 91/30, or 38/44, & have the ATI receiver mount tapped, & the ATI fugly bolt handle mounted.  The Soviet & Nazi action mounts tended to put the scope very high over the action to clear the bolt handle or the Mauser flag.

A Mosin trigger can be adjusted very nicely - I have a sporterized Remington 1917 that someone did a # on - it's in an ATI stock w/ scope mount & bolt handle now.

$50 - Remington Mosin
$50 - ATI scope mount & handle
$60 - Gander mountain tapping receiver
$100 - 91/30 already tapped, in ATI stock, w/ ATI bolt handle mounted

$260 for a scopable rifle, w/ a very nice trigger pull, in an inexpensive caliber.  It can be done more cheaply, especially if you tap the receiver & mount the bolt handle yourself & use the original stock.  There's a replacement trigger as well, if you don't want to mess about yourself w/ the trigger.

The LER might be cheaper but I like the looks of the original style scope.

This is one Century imported and put together a few years back. Came with the scope covers and a canvas scope and receiver cover. It'll shoot 3" - 4" at 200m with silver tip.

The one thing some do not like is the scope has a post and cross hair, not cross hairs like a US scope. When you adjust it the post moves. So once sighted in the post might be left or right, or up and down from center. Not a big deal and can be fixed.

If I was in the market for a quality Mil Surp rifle I would just buy a beat up K31, put a cheap scope and rings on it. To me a scoped 91/30 or an actual Mosin Sniper are not worth the time for the final outcome. YMMV

Thanks for the replies I am looking at this one here, has anyone heard of this before? Would it be good for mounting a LER scope on it?

I've heard of it.  One word of caution, however - pistol scopes are not scout scopes.  I tried to mount a pistol scope to my ATI mount screwed in backwards - no joy.  The long eye relief of the pistol scope wasn't quite long enough.  Stepping up to a true scout scope is an expensive experience - especially on a $50 rifle.  I was lucky to find a Mosin bolt w/ the ATI flat bolt handle already installed (mangled, some will say : )

Nice rifle

These rifles are zeroed by adjusting where the scope mount meets the receiver mount.   You have to gently remove material (or add, like using feeler gauges) to get the scope zeroed.  It's a PITA, but it'll be rock solid.

If you want to keep your mosin nagant unmolested and dont want to buy the sniper (which from my understanding isnt really an original sniper but 91/30 with scope) then I ran across these mounts a few years back when toying with the idea of a scoped 91/30
