Can anyone tell me what the threads are for a Factory drilled and tapped receiver Mossberg receiver is for mounting a rail.? I have an older receiver I want to drill and tap for a base. Thanks for any help.

Current production guns are 8-40, some older guns are 6-48.

Is this for the Mossberg 500 series shotguns.?

The 500, 590, 835, 930. etc all use the same hole spacing. The early guns (pre 1993? ) had 6-48 holes.

If you are drilling and tapping the receiver you can use either size, but if you buy a new base it will likely come with  (and holes in the base sized for) 8-40 screws

THAT'S what I needed to know because I have a new Weaver base which say's it's for a 1997 or later. Thanks man.
