What's Up Everyone, I'd like to say that after transferring my GSG-5 from Atlantic Firearms to my local FFL a couple of days ago, and after putting about 500 rounds through it, I am very pleased with the firearm, to say the least. I've encountered similiar issues as others, (ie. couple of FTFs, little wobbly stock, high aim at longer distances). I'd like to get some opinions from experts (such as jackall, and others) as to what the best options are in regard to (1) Optics Mounts, (2) Optics, and (3) Cleaning and Cleaning Accessories. (1) Optics Mounts I know everyone has been praising the G&G L.P.M for G3/MP5 Series Low Profile Mount found at RedWolf Airsoft (click me) , however this product is out of stock anywhere you look. (2) Optics I checked out all the posts here regarding possible optics options ,and have found that the G&P 30mm AP Red Dot Sight found at RedWolf Airsoft (click me) fits and works pretty good. I, for some reason think it looks a little bulky, but that's only my personal opinion. Another one I found is the NcSTAR (click me). I've heard this is pretty cheap, but you don't need any mounts for it, and might be a suitable alternative to others. ONE QUESTION - it seems like this model's line of sight will totally be obstructed by the iron sights, since it sits so low. I saw it on several pictures on this forum, and don't understand how you can use it. (3) Cleaning After taking the GSG-5 to the range for my first trial, I attempted to clean the rifle when I got home. I took a look at the paper manual that was included in the shipping box, and noticed on Page 24, the 3rd bullet from the top says "DO NOT use a steel brush" to clean the barrel. Sorry for the long post, but I just need to get some practical questions answered, and hopefully you experienced guys can share some input. Jackall, you seem like one of the authorities on this board (hint, hint). Thanks a lot for your input! Martin |

My sightmark works very well after I gave it a good wack on the side. There was something that seemed to be loose causing the hologram to flicker on and off. Someone else here got the same one and has had no issues with it. With any device, you can get a good one or a bad one. At $40 it won't break the bank if you get a bad one. I had mine out last week and had 0 issues with it and it holds a zero just fine. I have a GP102 NIB if anyone is interested. For cleaning I use the same equipment I use on my SS AR-15 barrels. Dewey Coated Cleaning Rods and those stiff nylon cleaning brushes. |
$9 rail mount - early adopter. Bought a $30 one at AirsoftCQB and it broke. Can't argue with the price! Goof enough. I use a boresnake on AR and GSG and other 22s. It's my lazy cleaning as a stop gap measure for a full cleaning. Looking at Otis kits. |

EarlB, Just to confirm, it's this model correct? : NcSTAR optic for GSG-5 (click me) You DO NOT need an additional rail mount for this model correct? I think this is a good practical optic to start with. The other one I was thinking was what Jackall had, the SIGHTMARK reflext site (in my previous post) which also looks cool as hell! What do you think? I'm not exactly sure how the NcSTAR integrates with the iron sites (beginner), can you explain? THANKS! ALSO, I've ordered some J. Dewey cleaning rods, following Jackal's recommendation. I got the 17" cleaning rods, J. Dewey .22lr Nylon Coated Cleaning Rod - 17" (click me). I also got the 12 pack of Nylon Brushes (no steel on the GSG-5 recommended). Good deal. |
