I'm starting on the paperwork for my first SBR build and have a question in regards to "caliber" selection on form 1140-0011, section 4C... If possible, I would like to have both a 5.56 and a 6.8SPC upper for the same registered lower... Is this "legal"? If so, what would be the correct response on the forms for caliber designation? Would I put down 5.56 AND 6.8SPC or "Multi"? OR... Do i need to choose a single caliber? Thanks!!! |

There's nothing illegal about putting down one caliber on the form and then buying and mounting another upper, or installing a .22lr conversion kit in your existing upper. As far as putting "multi" down, I think that's the most honest way to fill out the form, but I'm not sure whether BATFE will accept it or not. I have to call them on Monday anyway, I'll post up what NFA branch tells me. |
