Hi guys––new guy here.

First I would like to thank the guys at TNVC for my new  PVS-14.
I ordered it late in the day and they (Vic?) managed to get it out overnight the same day!
Great product and great service––Thanks!

My mission? Eliminate all of the muskrats that are slowly digging through the bank of my farm pond.
Suckers only come out at night.

Funny thing though,...once you start playing with NV you just can't stop.

So here's the question:

Is there or what is the best multi-use thermal optic.
Something that could be used to look around in the woods, and then be rail mounted as a sight/scope.
Something that approximates the utility of a PVS-14, but thermal.
Does this exist? Can a civilian buy one?

Thanks!

They exist, but you will pay a mint for the really nice ones.  It will make the price of your new pvs-14 look like a true bargain.  The Insight CNVD-T would be my first choice but I don't believe they are available to us lowly civilians, not to mention the fact that they cost more than a lot of brand new cars.  I've read good things about the performance of the TAM-14, but someone who actually owns one would have to chime in on that.  If you can find one at a good price, thermal is in a league all its own for detection purposes.  I was looking for same thing until I realized that the thermal I could afford would not possess the resolution and magnification that I would require in order to confirm the target and take a safe shot.  I wound up finding a good deal on a thermal eye x-50 which is FANTASTIC for spotting due to its great image and almost negligible weight.  If you wind up looking for JUST a spotter thermal, I would highly recommend taking a look at the thermal eye X series, they only got better after the X-50 and the prices have come down quite a bit.  For me, the gen3 MUM is still what I need for target ID, YMMV.

As Fordkickass said you might consider the TAM14 at ~$8,000k and then there is the TWS-37 at around $10k and then there is the Skeet from these guys http://www.oasys-technology.com/ at ~11.5K. I have not heard of anything cheaper that can do double duty ie thermal viewer and thermal weapons scope.

You might want to speak with the fella who sold you your PVS14 as he might know a little about these items

Thanks for the replies guys.

From what I can figure out, it seems you pay more for resolution and refresh rate, but the underlying tech
is about the same for all of them...is that the case?

Can anyone tell me if I will regret not having 320X240 if I get 160X120?

I was looking at the TAM-14 too, does anyone have any experience with it?
