| OK. So I have come into a little bit of cash and want to purchase a few guns to try out and probably keep the ones that I like. I am going to order about 12 handguns to save on shipping and transfer fees. Will I get in trouble from the ATF if I buy 12 and then sell half of them a year later if I don't like them? |

Do you have access to a range with rental guns? My IOI told me at my initial interview that multiple purchases of "collectible" guns doesn't raise eyebrows....but someone buying ten Hi Points would get a knock at the door. There is no federal law that prohibits you from buying as many guns as you want. There is a law that requires dealers to report the transfer of two or more handguns to the same buyer in a five day period. There is also federal law that prohibits nonlicensees from "engaging in the business" of dealing firearms. While you most certainly can sell your personal guns, be damn careful you don't create the appearance of repetitive buying and selling for profit.....that requires a license. If you live in Brownsville, TX or Tucson, AZ expect a visit from the po-po within hours of picking up your twelve Draco's. |
| Well here is my deal. I always believe in the one is none and we have three shooters. So I was going to buy at least 3 guns of the same to try them out. But only 2 of the 45 ACP caliber since I know I will be the only one shooting that. I have duplicates of every gun I own period. There is no range to try guns and I have the cash now to dump 6K on a bunch to see what the shooters in the family like and don't like and we have a range at my house to try them out on weekends so it is family fun also. So in total I was going to get about 18 pistols with 6 being double sets of 45 ACP and the other being sets of 3 of .357,9mm and.40 X 2 so my wife and daughter can try grips and shoot them to choose what they like best. |

it would be in your best intrest to go to a (renting gun) gun range............
you'll have all the touchie fealie ya want..... don't tempt the atf to look at you , if they do the'll be back looking for the next 10 years some F F L in your local might be happy to sell you all of those guns , at some good pricing , as well go on a vacation to said gun range ,have fun, then go buy your 8 / 10 guns you'll NOT HAVE to deal with the LEFT OVERS and everybody should be happy. I have seen several try // do what you express, and then selling off the left over guns, a FFL got pissed off and turned the people in and they were , checked up on for years slow down grasshopper you have plenty of time to buy guns. edet for (some spelling lol) |
| Understand and you have valid points. I just can't see putting money anywhere else. Banks give you nothing, stocks you loose money. PMs are too freaking high for my ultra low risk wife. We have 401Ks maxed out so guns have always been the best place to put cash. They never depreciate. Well almost never. ATF did hit me years ago when I bought a case of SKS's and I was on 48 hour hold on all guns handgun and long gun for about 2 years. So have to think about it. ATF can be a pain but a citizen doing something legal should have some rights. |

| Thanks for your input folks. I had read online where the ATF showed up to someone's house that did multiple purchases and made them produce said guns. I take it with a grain of salt but it was an old thread from here so who knows. Either way order is placed and family is going to have some fun weekends trying out new equipment. I even got a Judge for myself that I hadn't planned on. Good saleman he did an upsell on me. |

Just so you know, the FFL is required to send the form: Report of multiple sale of pistols and revolvers to the ATF. |
