Hello,

I tried a search but didn't find anything.

How safe is it to use a 1/2-28 to 5/8-24 adapters on my rifle.  I haven't built my 300 BLK yet and I'd like to use my new AAC 762-SDN-6 on my 5.56 rifle for now, but my new brake is threaded 5/8-24.

Is it safe to use an adapter or should I shell out more money to get a separate 1/2-28 threaded brake for the can?

Thanks!

Buy another blackout and use the suppressor on both barrels.

I don't see any danger with what you suggest, which as I understand it is:

Have a 5.56 mm rifle with a 1/2" x 28 TPI barrel

Put a crossover adapter on it to have a 5/8" x 24 TPI thread on the end

Put a 5/8" x 24 TPI flash hider on it

Put a supressor made for that flash hider on it.

If things are just hand tight you'll want to check it every so often when firing to make sure it's not coming loose.

But, if you just get a flash hider for 1/2" x 28 TPI and have it fully mounted (non-hand tight torque) on your 5.56mm rifle, you can just drop the supressor on it anytime you want, withouth having to screw things on, and it will be shorter overall too.

Put an AAC 51T 1/2-28 brake on the 5.56 barrel. You're going to do it eventually anyway, no reason to pay for the adapter now when you know are going to be buying the brake later anyway.

Buy another silencer mount.  You're talking about a $1000 can.  Now is not the time to start pinching pennies. AAC does not recommend thread step up or down adapters. The tolerance spec doubles when using one of those adapters. It could be fine, but it could put a round through the side of your can.

Buy another mount.

Thanks all.. I think I'll just pony up for the appropriate brake and not risk it.

The chance of getting a baffle strike from a .223 in a .30 cal. can is pretty slim.

Having said that, isn't the point of getting a quick-attach can so you don't have to screw something on and off all the time?  If the adapter isn't held on in a semi-permanent manner (high-temp loctite, rocksett, etc.), then you might as well just run a thread-mount can.
