| I called around to some of the local tire shops and could only scare up about 100lbs of WWs. I may end up buying a few 5 gallon buckets from a place that's selling them for $25. In an attempt to branch out I called two shops in a small town 60 miles away and between the two they said there were about three 5 gallon buckets free for the taking. One place gave me a cut off 55 gallon drum almost a foot deep with ww's. In the end I scored about 400lbs or ww's! Of course I took over donuts and probably have to take something more significant next time. I think next weekend I'll be smelting my first batch of ingots as long as it's not as cold as it has been. |

Great. For what it's worth, I use an aluminum muffin pan to make "ingots". They won't go bad. Stock up or even sell some to other casters as you get excess. How much do your "ingots" weigh? I'd really like to have 2+ pound ingots rather than the 1 pounders. |

| If you want to score big with the tire shops leave an empty 5 gallon bucket when you pick up the full ones. You can even put your tel. # on the side with a Sharpie. This way they don't have to look for a bucket to throw the used weights into and also they know who to call when it's full. |

Wow... 400 lbs will make a LOT of bullets. I figure that's about 12,175ea 230grn lead 45acp bullets!! Great Score! figure a 70-80% net of lead out of 100% wheel weights asd u need to remove the clips and junk so 9-9.5K 45 boolits Read above, there is a lot of junk in and on the WW's, not to mention nasty suprises in the buckets ( Razor blades, needles, batteries). This is why we seperate and smelt out the raw WW into clean ingots first. |
