Hey guys, I need to know what to do about my Mosin Nagant M38 circa 1943. The main thing is the cheap scope base that a previous owner put has been drilled and tapped into the barrel. Also the front sight is loose as hell. I've tried a different front sight and it was loose also, so I'm assuming it's the the barrel band that wore. The stock is in pretty good condition, although it's a M44 stock. The bore is also in pretty good shape which is counter bored about 1.25".

So, on to my question. Is this old war horse worth saving, or is it a lost cause? I sure don't want to have more in gunsmithing bills than what the rifle is worth. It's a damn good shooter so I won't be getting rid of it, but would like to know what my options are.

Thanks in advance.

You can see where someone center punched the sight to try to get it to stay put. It didn't work

you could try to epoxy or solder the front sight ( between the base and the sight globe )  to stop it from moving

the scope mount- you could take that off and fill in the screw hole and put an original rear sight on there. that scope mount doesnt look sturdy anyways...

the rifle is definitely salvageable, and should be an easy fix

Thanks for the reply builttough,

I guess it's time to order more parts. At this rate, it's gonna be 10 years before this thing will be worth what I've got in it. Oh well, it still not as bad as BRD.
