I am completely befuddled on how to arrange my new Pelican 1600 case....I have about 4 handguns I want to fit in the case....but I also have extra magazines (just a few).  I also have two suppressors coming in.  A silencerco Sparrow and an AAC TiRant 45. The TiRant will have about two extra pistons...

Need ideas for the arrangement...this case has two layers roughly 3 inches in depth...So for some of the bigger magazines I would have to remove all of the underlying foam to make them fit...maybe lay them flat?

This is overwhelming!

Any pics of your set-ups is appreciated (not rifle cases though).

I should add this is the pick and pluck foam....so even though there are 2 layers to work with, removing foam from one layer completely gets rid of that layer.....Which is why I am having trouble...

So firstly I had to wonder about the layout.  I looked up the measurements of the TiRant and Sparrow and used knives (approximately the same length) to sort of map out their space.  Then I stacked the magazines in what I believe to be the best use of space for them....I cut the top layer of foam in half and the thickest gun I have (the HK) is not protruding so I think that went very well.

Then, using paperclips I marked off which cubes to pull out.  I think my next Pelican case will have standard foam to cut out.  But over all the pick and pluck is not bad.

The P22Q has some pretty severe lines so it shows the block-iest....In the pictures they all look worse than they are (remember this is just pick n pluck foam) but the P22Q looks pretty bad in person too....unless it is in the foam and then it isn't too bad.

Now I am just trying to orient the magazines.....If I place them all vertically, I cannot fit as many....it seems to be a balance...If I have a lot of the magazines I can fit more horizontally but with fewer it is more space efficient to stack them vertically.

I am trying to leave space for my next Sig and a few magazines for it as well....the picture below shows a small box shaped by paper clips laying flat...this is the space I have for some Sig mags..

Time to cut the other foam insert:

After cutting the second layer I wanted to finish doing the magazines.

The section on the far end houses 5 HK USP 10 rounders, next to that are two vertical 12 rounders for the HK (I did them like this to easily identify the 12 and 10 rounders.  Also, I actually fit more this way than if I put them all vertically), on the closest end you will see what looks like just a rectangular block (this block houses my 6 Glock magazines.  I have left space for 3 Sig mags as well.

Here is the finished product until a Sig rolls my way and/or my suppressors come in. I will fit the LWD 40-9 threaded barrel in there when I have the suppressors.  I don't want to take away from that much needed space.  I have measured out though and I should have plenty of space.

As you can see in the Glock magazine section, I have room for 2 more magazines....I just don't have those magazines yet ;).  I also wanted to make sure each of my firearms had a magazine in place/ready.

So, my finished product should have 16 magazines (not including the space for the Sig and Sig magazines), two suppressors, an extra barrel for the Glock (maybe), and 4 handguns (including the Sig :p).  Oh....and this is just the top layer :D!!!

Maybe it's just me, but I feel you are really overthinking this.

First, dump the Pick-and-Pluck. I had it in the first Hardigg Storm pistol case I owned and found pieces of it falling out after the handgun was taken in and out several times. At first,I was glueing the pieces back in but finally gave up on it.

The system I ended up with works great now. I left the top and bottom solid foam. Then I cut a piece of 1/4" plywood to fit the inside of the case. I then hot glued foam to both sides of the 1/4" plywood after adding a 1" wide webbing handle to it to make it easy to remove.

By doing this, I can easily fit 8 full size handguns, four in each level. This way I'm not stuck using it for only specific handguns that the foam is cut out for.

I can fit 4 in each level as well.  The case came with the pick and pluck so, like you, I will let it runs its course.  Maybe it doesn't last and maybe it does.  I will go from there.  I don't need a super snug foam...everything is held in place very well (the case will just be used to carry the firearms to the car, and then from the car to the range).  For my needs, it works great.

HA, well I found the thread I was looking for...You might want to let the 22 pages of members know they over thought their as well.  It is about personalizing it and making it nice.  I'll buy more foam if I want to change my set up.

I didn't mean to offend you, honestly. I've cut foam and personalized a few cases and liked the way they came out.

I'll never customize a handgun case. I have way too many handguns. With the generic setup I have, I can fit 8 of any handguns I want to bring to the range. I can even fit my 10/22 Pocket Rifle in it.

One problem I've had is when you change your setups, optics, stocks, etc, all that work you did is no good anymore. Here's a pic of an aluminum case I did for my first SBR. The foam is crap now since the optics have changed and I added a light. I got new foam and left it solid so I can put anything I wanted into it. If I had cases customized for a particular firearm, I'd need a lot of cases.

I do have one Hardigg Storm case that came from Hardigg (now Pelican, right across the River from me) pre-cut. It's their M4 case which is a Mil item. I don't know if you can order ir pre-cut like this retail. It's cut out for a 14.5" M4 and Beretta with extra mags. I don't own a Beretta anymore, but a Glock or 1911 drops in just fine. I did have to make a few adjustments to fit my AR's. I cut it so it fits most of my ARs with different optics, etc.

My point is that I like the set up.  I am only 21 and I have over a dozen firearms and half of them are handguns.  I have no doubt I will add more but, when I do, I will simply buy new foam.  Even then, I will likely keep the foam layers and just label them.  That way I can switch set-ups very quickly.  For the time being, though, this is perfect for me.  I don't have too many handguns.  I have room to grow in this case.

I will likely get more for my ARs and then I will incorporate a different case and different firearms (though I will likely go with the standard foam versus the pick and pluck).

The problem I have with the standard foam is that when cutting the foam, you have to cut through an entire layer...With the foam cut in half and then glued back together, it gives me a bottom layer without needing to go all the way through the foam.  This puts a cushion between the top and underlying layer.  I like it and even if I get the standard foam I will likely cut it in half like I did with this case.  None of the items I have will have a diameter that should require more depth.

Preferred this style myself. I have a bigger case to do the same.

That is an interesting set up.

As I mentioned in my post, if I stood up my magazines I would lose space (given the amount I was putting in the case).  There is a point where you lose space.  If that is all of the magazines that you have then it works great.  Looks good.

I am just bummed at how long it is going to take for my suppressors to come in......

What model and size is that case? I want one about that size or a little smaller for an SBR that I have.

I see lots of ideas about cases and Bug Out setups, but what I'm not seeing is holsters, magazine carriers or pouches. Just the guns and magazines.
