I finally got around to doing it. Some people may think I'm crazy for doing this to a $2000 rifle & a $900 scope, but I figured my rifle so do what I want. I do have a supressor on order for this rifle that I will also duracoat

DPMS SASS .308
Vortex Optics - Viper PST 4-16x50 EBR-1 MRAD Reticle
Magpul 20 round magazines.
180 grain SST's loaded with 42.2 grains BLC2

This thing is a beast and is very accurate, I can't wait to get a supressor on it and run some sub-sonics.

Base coat Woodland tan, next woodland green, woodland brown, a little bit of Matte black, and then I clear coated it. I used cut off pieces of a broom to do the patterns.

Enjoy

crazy ? .... it looks good to me

can i ask you some simple questons about duracoat and finishing the rifle ?

did you duracoat it with an airbrush or a small gun?
about how much duracoat did it take to do the base coat ?
is the finish flatter, then what it looks like in the photos ?
did you clear coat it with the matte finish, or add the flatting agent ?

the reason i ask is because i'm a newbie when it comes to airbrushing and duracoat. the wife bought me an airbrush setup for christmas after this last summers rattle can jobs cameout looking good. any basic info would be a help.

thanks

about how much duracoat did it take to do the base coat ? I would say order the medium sized bottle
is the finish flatter, then what it looks like in the photos ? It is pretty flat, flash makes it look shiner also you can adjust your flatness by using less hardner
did you clear coat it with the matte finish, or add the flatting agent ? Matte finish

I did this first to a $200 SKS to make sure I could do it and to make sure I liked it.  I had no experience with an airbrush before the SKS you will learn quickly what works and what doesn't.  If you don't have a cheap gun to pratice on get a toy gun and do it on it first.

i've spray painted a few rifles and carbines before, but never used an airbrush. i'm working on the basics of it first on paper with water based paints.
