Well, I can't believe it has been over two years already, but my time with the NFA Branch is coming to an end. This Friday, 7/6/07 is my final day. I applied for, and was accepted for, a position with another Division/Branch within ATF. I've met many of you, talked to many more of you, and hope I have helped even more on the forums. I'll still be around, and help when I can, but may not be able to offer the "first hand" adivce that I have in the past. Anyway, thanks for putting up with me, and letting me hang out. Dan Pinckney. |
I don't think hanging out on boards with names like marlboroman.com or pinkelephant.com will be as entertaining for him as ARFCOM is Thanks for being like a liaison between us black rifle crowd and the original red-tape .gov types. Durring your term, Form 1 & 4 processing times were reduced by well over 50%. Your services are well appreciated. Take care and good luck in your new assignments! P.S. I'm smoking a tax-free cigarette right now... ![]() ...come 'n get me! ![]() |
Thanks for your signature on my first Form 4 - I will forever curse you for giving me a disease worse than BRD! Just kidding! Spooky |

DAN! SAY IT AINT SO!!!! You should have a F4 for my M11 right now! You can't go yet! Seriously, whether it was NFADan or DanP, I hope we all didn't bug you too much. You are known in the Class III circles I know as THE BEST examiner there. I know my dealer (Longview Class III Arms) absolutely loves having you as his examiner. Thank you for being here and making us realize that the crew at the alphabet place are actually real people and very helpful. Good luck with your new job and don't be a stranger around here. Can you give us a clue as to what your going to be doing? Chasing drug dealers or something? |

Dan, thanks for giving us all a much clearer understanding of what BATFE needs to process our paperwork quickly and cleanly. For decades, ATF and NFA owners treated each other as adversaries. The move to W.Va. was a huge step toward ending that; your presence, advice and help on the forums has, in many ways, had even more impact. Please remind other ATF staff that NFA owners are the most law-abiding gun owners out there. We may not like the rules and regs, but we bend over backwards to comply with them. I know everyone's nominating you as the next director of ATF. You've got my vote, too, but if that doesn't work out, I hope you end up in Tech Branch, spending every day in the reference collection. That'd be nirvana for a gun guy, and you've earned it. Don't be a stranger, now. You're welcome here no matter where you work. |

Best luck to you Dan. Nice to have someone from NFA branch to give us (unofficial) helpful info. I may or may not have talked with you, I'm not sure. But, everyone I have talked to at NFA Branch has been exceptionally helpful, and very corteous. Hope you stick around here. |

Hey Dan, just wishing you a good first few days at your new position. Can you share what you are doing yet? Or would you have to send some of those guys in black suits over to talk to me if you did? It's funny, I keep all my ATF forms in an envelope whenever I go shooting, and I try to check to make sure they are all there before I go to the range. Saturday, I was going through my forms and your name was on 4 of them. I hope I got your sig on my M11. I haven't called to check on it to see if it was approved before you left. Oh, and like Bach said, if your ever in North or NE TX, let us know. I can do the cookin and we can all do some shooting. |

Thanks for the well wishes, and all the invites to shoot. Range time, and some good food in Texas, sounds like an offer too good to pass up..!!! I really appreciate it, and hope I can take some of you up on it. It's been a hectic week so far. Doing the whole office/desk/job change things. I can't say much about what I will be doing, as it requires an upgrade to TS clearance, and with that, involves quite a bit of selectiveness in speaking about the job. I'll still be hanging around, and will still try to provide what help I can. Thanks again. |
I bet I can guess... |
