Is there any website, like kickstarter, that allows you to raise funds for gun related ideas?  Obviously there isn't enough .22, so we need to make more to meet the demand.  No company wants to build a new plant though because its too expensive.  If we could raise 25 million or so for the ammo plant, they would be earning straight profits and not have to pay off all that money since it was donated.  Is this a viable idea? If so, we need to do this! For every gun owner and for every future gun owner!

Not tech.

But to answer you: You're looking for venture capitalists.

Web search found this:

TAP Ammo

ETA just noticed this start up is based in St George Utah and I wanted to add that I am in no way affiliated with them.

Awesome!  Thanks for the link!  Hopefully they will get enough money to do this!  I'm contributing right now :D

People should just stop paying 80 to 90 dollars for a box of 500 rounds. Let those ammo prices drop. Stop buying from the guys that go to walmart and buy it for cheap. Then they go on sites like gunbroker and over price it to hell.

Exactly... Every time someone buys overpriced ammo they become part of the problem.

I agree, but some people are desperate enough to buy it.  I haven't bought .22lr for about 6 months so I'm starting to get pretty antsy.

25 million?

I'd have to keep 24 million if the charity was started under my name.

13th post of a '14er.  OP How old are you?  Do you have any real life experience under your belt?

I'm trying to be nice, so I'll end my response now.

The other day I was listening to Cam &Co, and he was discussing .22 ammo production with Mark O'Keefe.  Mark said we probably won't see any ammo manufacturers expanding their .22lr production, mainly because of the extra labor involved in making rimfire ammo, and the profit margin on making .22 ammo is very low.  In other words, if they build a humungous facility and double their production, they not only will get caught up, but they'll also slit their throats as the ammo value drops closer to the cost of manufacturing it. It would take forever to return the investment  If a smaller company goes into production, they wouldn't have the same bulk material buying abilities or scale of manufacturing equipment as the major ammo makers, and couldn't produce ammo at an attractive price.

I'd be real leery of any ammo vendor or mfg trying to raise cash, based out of UT. After the Frontier Precision debacle, there's no way in hell i'd send money to them without  thoroughly researching who was involved, from the floor sweeper to the HMFIC. And anyone related to anyone within a 100 mile radius ho might be a DNA match

Don't know about FPA, do some web searching. End of post.

Yeah, good luck with that.  All the machinery is custom built and there are unavoidable bottlenecks in the priming stage.  Plus all the training, permitting, OSHA crap, etc.  By the time you get the plant up and running, the ammo bubble will have burst and you'll be lucky to get $10/brick wholesale.

Shit.  I last bought .22lr the day Newtown went down.  I was buying a Ruger SR22 for my wife for Christmas and grabbed a brick at that time.  That was almost two years ago.  I haven't walked into a store that sells ammo and seen .22 on the shelf since that time, and I'm sure as shit not paying any of the prices I'm seeing around here.  Luckily once upon a time I bought cheap and stacked deep, as they say.  I would urge everyone here to look around at what's cheap right now (12ga) and ask yourself if we live in a time when we can expect ammo price to only be affected by inflation.

Unfortunately, it will quickly become obvious that if ammo is selling at neckbeard prices, manufacturers can simply increase their prices and suck up the profits before the neckbeards can get to it.

Prices are creeping up, but could easily double.  Supply and demand will be moderated by price increases.  Peak rimfire and all that.
