I have noted that in talking to the local crew about...what else...guns, it is difficult to indicate a PARTICULAR gun without attaching a name to it. For instance, once you are past a certain point on the collector's scale, you can't make a reference like "My AR is not extracting." The shooting buddies will go "Which AR?" So I end up attaching names to different guns to be more specific. My first AR was built by a guy who goes by the name Gonzo, some of you Alabama folks may know him. So I refer to that gun as The Gonzo Special. After I assembled my last AR, an instructor picked it up and was moving around the room rather "tactically" whispering, "Man, this gun is the sh*t." So now the gun is TheSh*t. These are a couple of examples. Do any of you guys give your guns a name to be able to distinguish them from your others? |

My '79 Colt Gov't Model is "Frankenpistol" - it's gone through a lot of upgrades. My '79 Colt Combat Commander is "El Limon" (The Lemon) because it was a jammomatic at first. (It's fine now...phew!) My PSS .308 is "The Mummy" - it seemed to carry a curse with it (guy who sold it to me had a wicked jet-ski accident just before he shipped it out, a guy next to me at a rifle class had his custom rifle's bolt handle shear off after a case got stuck, plus some other minor incidents). Luckily, nothing's happened to me...yet. I still haven't named my Bushy, though. Gotta wait for inspiration to strike. |

My Bushmaster - "Dubya" (think about it, it'll come.) The BRNO is "Bruno", the Spanish Mauser is "Jose", the Finn M39 is "the Thunder Lizard", The Romanian M69 is "Romy". The Italian .22 revolver that groups 8" two feet high at 15 yards is . . well, never mind - not in polite company! |

I name all my guns. Here's some: Thompson: Jenni, after a girl who was suppossed to have cancer, but it turned out she didn't. It made her feel better to know I named a "Tommy-gun" after her. Bushmaster M4: Wilma Mae. Initials: WM. Widow Maker. Ruger Mk II 22/45: Effany, after my girlfriend, who just broke up with me, and still has it under her bed. I oughta get that, but she's out of town. SKS: Skiss. |
