I have a full size Springfield Armory M1A that I would like to turn into a dedicated sniper system. I'm looking at the Troy MCS system with a Magpul PRS, but I have zero experience with this set up and I've only seen it in photos. Any feedback on this set up?

What about other options, is there another set up for a dedicated sniper system that anyone else is using?

Thanks

There is a lot more to it than just adding a stock. Is your rifle a national match or loaded version? You will need to think about a Match barrel, unitized gas cylinder, NM op spring rod ect. Depending on what you have now, you could have your stock glass bedded, add a unitized gas cylinder and such. Looks wont make your rifle anymore accurate. Good luck in your quest.

Thank you for the tips, I'm aware of the other issues, but right now I'm just looking for a solid stock that I can use. Looks aren't my primary concern, but I am concerned about the balance of the MCS. Is anyone on the board using this system?

Ok, why?

Do you have this set up and have you tried any of the others?

I am using the MCS stock, not exactly like you describe what you want to do.
No, I have'nt tried any other setup, and I am biased towards the MCS. I think it's
the best if you want a DMR and alot of options for your setup.
1) The MCS has one continuous rail across the top, you do not need any special scope mount.
You can use any kind of BUIS, folding I presume, that you want. Rail mounted of course.
2) You can use any stock you want, thats compatable with the AR weapons system.
You mentioned the Magpul PRS, I dont use it, but hear its an excellent stock. The point is
if YOU try it and don't like it. Then you can change it to some thing else.
3) You can use any grip that is used on the AR weapons system.
4) You can field strip the MCS, basicly like an M1A. Pop the triger group out, remove an
AR like push pin, and it separates. Very simple.
5) Some people cry like little school girls about weight. Usually guys who have ten pounds
of gear on an AR, then all of a sudden they're worried about weight. Though I dont have
a super accurate scale to use, My rifle goes about 12 lbs loaded.
6) Hope this helped you out a little. If you need more info you should contact H2OMAN.
He's on this board and a few others.

The Magpul PRS fits and functions on the SAGE EBR with the AR style receiver extension tube

which one has a better, action lockdown system? the sage I know has a fantastic system to lock in the action, therefore instantly helping with accuracy. what does the troy have?

Both the SAGE and TROY offer tension bedding of the receiver.

The EBR uses an op rod guide block that is bolted in place and the gas system is shimmed.
The MCS utilizes the original op rod guide and front barrel band. The MCS also has adjustment screws for the trigger group.

SAGE EBR seems to extract the most accuracy out of barrels that are 18.0" and longer.
TROY MCS seems best suited to enhancing the accuracy of the 16.25" SOCOM.

I honestly don't mean to be a party-pooper, but seems to me like the ergonomics (balance perhaps) of those rifles would be a bit off. Admittedly, I haven't handled the M14 platform so equipped, but it seems like the smart thing to do would be to buy AR-10 or similar platform that's good to go, pistol grip and all, right out of the box?

but M1a/m14's are badass... and I love how they dont spew gas/carbon deposits all over the action.  Its all about choices and Im glad we have them..

Thanks to everyone for the replies, after doing a ton of reading and contacting a few people who own the various choices, I decided to go with the Sage EBR system like H2O_MAN is using. Hopefully I'll get the rifle set up and this will work out perfect for me, otherwise someone's going to get a killer deal on the EE.
