| I just ordered 6 jugs of WC860 and 600 API tips from Pats. I believe he said the tips are 700 gr. What charge should I use? I've read some places that say 215gr but I want to get multiple opinions. All of my load books don't have any data for surplus powders. TIA |

"tips"? they're bullets. Where does this get started? this place says 233 grains with a 661 grain projectile. |
that load is milspec for the M2HB machine gun, plus the military will generally test the lot of powder they get and adjust the load according to the 'real' burn rate the powder actually delivers. If you're using a typical bolt gun, you should start at 215gr and work up from there for your lot of powder. My rifles all shoot pretty well with 218gr of surplus 5010 or 860 with M33 or M2 bullets. I drop down to 216gr for 750gr bullets. M48a1 spotter projos should be limited to 170-190gr to remain within design specs. Other 800gr bullets will do better with a slow powder like VV20N29 or a surplus 20mm powder. |

Honestly I dont know.... I loaded up 30 rounds and shot 5 of them at 300 and they didnt group worth a damn. I think my scope couldnt handle it because no matter how much I adjusted it didnt change the POI. Anyways they were all minute of APC.... within a 15 inch circle. I went back to 600 yards just to see what would happen, and I shot 15 or so more and 3 of those were in dead center on the target within 4 inches, the others went over the top of the target! I then switched over to Talon FMJ and had the same results.I weighed every charge, and put no crimp on them. They were pulled Pats AP bullets. I have 60 Amax's and I think im gonna load up 10 or so of them to see if its me or the rifle. I put a new scope on the rifle and next month when I get back from training im gonna load up around 60 rounds and go to a 700 yard range after I get a good zero at 200 yards. |
