| so..been working on building up my gear... i don't have a knife. i've seen some mighty fine blades in here.. a lot of beckers and such.. didn't want to post over in the blades b/c i'm not looking for a pocket knife. something to go on either my PC or BB.. need some advice. thanks for any/all feedback |
| I have an ESEE 3 on my belt. For the money, it's a well built knife. If you're looking to save a little scratch, the Ontario RAT-3 is practically the same knife (same designer, same basic design, just slightly smaller dimensions (the scales aren't interchangeable)). |

If your looking for more of a fighting knife check out the Benchmade Adamas Knife. I have an Izula and I love it for small cutting tasks.

I have large hands so initially it felt awkward. I had to try different wrapping techniques till I built up the center enough to get a good grip. Now when I go to grab the knife it's perfect. I have pretty good sized hands as well. i played around with a few paracorded knives and such from friends..never really liked the feel..but would give it another go if properly wrapped to fit! thanks! |

If your looking for a fighting knife Check out skallywag Tactical: Skallywag Tactical
I have the "spin Drift" The Steve Reichart designed knife. : Spin Drift They are expensive, but all hand made in the USA, the spin drift is a crazy sharp knife, really solid. And would make a great fighting knife.

What do you anticipate using this knife for? Defensive use? Utility? First Aid? Rescue ops? Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile well..all of the above i guess. i'm looking to add to my PC and BB. so, i'm thinking something kind of "all around"..do all, end all, be all. nothing too hunky though. |

If it's a utility blade, look at a Becker BK2. Or BK13 or 24. Made in the USA, solid designs, and won't break the bank. i am really digging the Becker's. but i'm not a real big knife kinda guy. so i've been looking for a while via the forums and pic threads and reading several of the comments. i see alot of postings but not much detail as to why one choose this one over that one. so..just looking for a little goody i guess. thanks! |

Not too big? Would the ESEE Izula (and it's cousin the BK14) count as too large? I've heard of people wearing the Izula as a neck knife. These two designs are some of the better utility fixed blades for the price without going custom (and being USA made as well). |

Dammit Man... i never knew buying a knife could be so....so...expensive!!! i know "it will last forever" and such the like...but whew.... that's a heavy hit.. LOL I know what you mean. I don't carry a knife on my PC or BB, but I've been pretty darn impressed with my ESEE 4. I bought it at The Knife Connection when they were running an ESEE promotion. I've also been happy with the surplus Ontario Ka-Bar I bought from USRO, and am now checking out the Becker BK-2. Speaking of expensive knives on PC's, a certain outfit in the U.S. Army seems to prefer Randall Made Knives. Not only is it expensive, but the typical wait time after ordering from the factory is five years. |
| I have the small KBar TDI on my BB, but seriously considered the Esee Izula for that role. In the end the TDI was just a better fit for me. Nothing on my PC, but I do have a Gerber LMF II, and a CountyComm C.E.R.T. Bar on/in my pack. I consider all of them to be tools first and foremost. |

I went through the fixed-blade phase years ago. I would urge you to think deeply on the subject before acting.
In all my time in the backcountry and out in the bush (hunting excluded), I've needed a knife a mere handful of times, and a pocket folder sufficed in all those situations. I carry a pocket knife every day no matter where I go (typically a Columbia River Drifter) and the Multitasker on my MOLLE belt has a blade. I don't plan on using a knife for fighting, but the folder would certainly suffice if called upon. In the end, you're the one that has to carry it and it's your money. Less is more. |

I came to the same conclusion. Most of my sharp stuff ended up being primarily used to pick my nails... not exactly worth it for $300 knives. |

Kinda sounds like you don't need a knife on your PC. You have to have some intended purpose for the knife, so that we can make proper suggestions. Otherwise, this thread will (and has) simply turn into people recommending their favorite brands. Even if your intended purpose is looking cool, you should try to generate some criteria for this knife to meet. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Even if your intended purpose is looking cool, you should try to generate some criteria for this knife to meet. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile looking "cool" is not my thing.. i look how i look...but i catch your drift. so ultimately Yes the decision is up to me.. but i guess what i was thinking is that i needed a blade on my PC or BB for any occasion that should arise and a blade is needed.. i see a lot of people running a knife on their gear as a "back up" of sorts i guess. i can see it both ways..to have and not to have. my pops always said "it's better to have it and not need it, then to need it and not have it" so i guess that's where my mind was. in real world scenario's or even in training scenario's do you guys find that you need your blades much? i don't know..say..maybe cutting a seat belt or rope or anything of the like. i'm just thinking outside the box. i do not plan on going hand to hand but am just trying to put together a solid rig. so i hope you guys can catch where i'm coming from and where i'm going. that's why i posted this. i am on the lesser side of knowledge in this criteria and knew i would get ample feedback to help on the matter. |
