I'll be working landscaping this summer and I need a knife. I have already taken a look at THIS, but I just wanted to see if ya'll could mention any other options.

I need the knife to be pretty small because of the type environment i will be working in. This knife will probably get beat to hell so not to pricey. Fixed blade.

Looks like I found the perfect one already?

Thanks!

Or if you want a color that you won't lose in all the greenery, and doesn't scare people, try one in Blaze Orange.

Fantastic little knives, I carry one everyday instead of a pocket knife.

Cold Steel, SRK "factory-second" from here www.coldsteel.com/seconds.html, makes a fine "work" knife.

Much better choice than that toy ya picked.

Mike

ps - of-course that depends entirely on your definition of "work"........

Awesome little blade, tougher than hell and easy to carry around the neck. You can even attach a Tek Lok on the sheath and wear it on a belt if you so desire. You cannot go wrong with this knife, or any Becker for that matter.

I worked landscaping last summer and beat on a couple knives pretty good.  I used my Buck 119 a lot since it was the chespes fixed-blade that I had;  the 420 steel on that would not keep a good edge.

I'd look at a slightly bigger blade--5-6" should et the job done without getting too many odd looks.  I think you'll probably want a knife that is big enough to whack at small branches and roots.  Buy a knife that is cheap enough to lose without a whole lot of pain--pretty easy to forget tools or leave stuff laying out, etc.

My knife got borrowed by other kids on the crew a lot; it also got thrown around, stuck in the ground, dropped in the mud, etc. on a regular basis.  Look for a blade that will hold a good edge most of all--cutting open bags of sand and such will take the edge off pretty quick.

I'd look at the the 5" ka-bars or the Camillus pilot survival knives--pretty cheap, the 1095 steel will hold an edge well, and they are chunky enough to hold with gloves on.  I never really used any smaller knives (folders or fixed blades) because they were hard to handle with gloves on.  Also, if you plan to carry the knife on your belt, get a sheath that you can get the knife in and out of one-handed; if you can't do it one handed, the knife becomes a real PITA becasue you have to drop everything else you are doing to get it out/put it away (which is my my knife ended up thrown blade-first into the ground a lot of the time)

He said it needs to be pretty small.  6" blades may be small to some people, but i think he was looking for 4" or less.  In that case, the cold steel pendleton hunter is a great  knife.

Might also check out Swamp Rat Knife Works. I've abused the crap out of one of their Bandicoots.
Been a great little knife.

I'd get the SRK second or the Master Hunter second (4.5" blade).  Those prices can't be beat.  I have a Bark River Woodland and a Swamp Rat Howlin Rat and I recommend both but they'll be twice the price albeit the sheaths are probably better.

The Pendleton Hunter is a great knife, the 3.5" version is my main hunting knife.

Really depends on how much you want to spend. CRKT makes a decent knife (actually they generally import) for the price - one of the better bang for buck knifes IMHO. A little more expensive would be Cold Steel, I've never had an issue with any of their knives.

Gerber has always made decent blades too, you could try one like this www.knifeworks.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=5076 (not sure about the steel used on this one though "400 series" covers a lot of bases.

Just how heavy duty do you need?
