I am planning on buying a 50 cal soon. Probably mid December. It will probably be the Ferret upper with the hybrid chamber that allows surplus ammo to shoot though it. I am looking into all the parts/components etc.. now. I have been looking at ammunition and need some help. I don't want to shoot tracer or Incindiary ammo because most of my shooting will be in the desert and I don't want to start a fire. I won't get a reloader for it until I have collected some brass. So what is the best/cheapest ammo for blasting. The best I am seeing that is in stock is from Ammunitionstore.com. Their brand is Star Air Inc. 100 rounds for $159.95. It is Amor piercing type. It doesn't matter to me if it is AP or FMJ, as long as it isn't a fire hazard. How does this ammo rate? Brass O.K. to reload? Is there a better option out there that I am not seeing? Most of what I am finding is tracer or incindiary. Thought or suggestions would be appreciated. |
| hello. i dont know anything about the star ammo. did you try sportsman guide in minnesota? thats where i get my 50 ammo from. you do realise that 50 ap will start fires also. i had this happen at a local range. dont know what i hit. was shooting only paper targets at the time. luckily got the fire out. must have hit a rock and caused a spark. you will absolutely love a fifty. it always gives me a big rush even though ive fired hundreds of rounds through it. kirk |
| Sportsmans guide lists thier linked FMJ http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=151273 at $125 for 100. Is there any way to get it cheaper from them, like discount codes or coupons to enter in at checkout? Is this ammo safe to shoot out of the Ferret upper with the Hybrid chamber? |
| hello. if you join their mailing club, you will get a good discount from them. i dont know about the hybrid chamber. i will tell you this, when i first got my lar grizzly, the damn chamber was so tight that i had to beat the bolt closed with a plastic mallet! people said i was crazy, but after about 10 rounds it loosened right up. i dont think it would hurt your upper any. when i called the company about my tight chamber, they said i should have ordered the ( feild grade ) chamber instead of the match. the guy just laughed and said the gun could take it but it might effect accuracy. the gun has shot well over 400 to 500 rounds without any problems. kirk |
