| How good are the pvs-14 and can it safely be mounted on a 7.62 NATO besides doing a rhino mount? Also would it work well behind a elcan dr 1x4 scope or not? |

How good are the pvs-14 Is "freakin' awesome" a viable descriptor? Because it ought to be. and can it safely be mounted on a 7.62 NATO besides doing a rhino mount?
It can using a Larue or other well stabilized mount. Also would it work well behind a elcan dr 1x4 scope or not?
I have never put one behind an Elcan, but they work behind other scopes, so I don't see why not. There are mounts that let you mate a PVS-14 to a standard day scope, and the results are pretty impressive. I have done that exact thing and was pretty shocked that it worked so well. Bad juju mounting a PVS-14 on a .308 rifle. While it's "mountable" the tubes can be hit or miss when it comes to the ability to take the recoil, but the bodies are not designed to take weapons recoil. There has been thread after thread discussing this over and over and over.
Here, because I'm a nice guy The most recent thread http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_18/368820_Gun_mounted_PVS_14__how_much_recoil_is_too_much_.html As for the SpectreDR, here's a PDF that's on the TNVC webpage. http://www.tnvc.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ELCAN_DR_article.pdf For thermal fusion units your looking at 10s of thousands of dollars. And to be honest, having tested units for one of the big time units, they're still in an infancy stage. If you have that kind of cash to throw around, I'd go with a PVS-14, DBAL-D2, SpectreDR, and a clip-on unit to go in front of the SpectreDR. All that crap would still be cheaper than a single PSQ-20. |

The problem of recoil induced tube failure yet remains under almost all 7.62x51 and PVS-14 combinations. |
