Ive got a new little 17 hmr. Im looking for a scope for under 150 bucks. I havent had the best luck with scopes in this price range. Any advise on which is the best for the buck. Ive been looking at a cabelas model for the 17 but the reviews are mixed. Any help would be appreciated.

What range are you looking to shoot at?

I would go with a Nikon.

Id like to try it out to 300yards. I dont plan on always going that far out, but id like to try it alittle.

Nikon 3-9x40mm would be fine. I'm not sure how .17 will do at 300 yards though.

Think a .22 magnum scope would work out?

I never believed it until about 5 years ago when I broke down and spent 800 on a leupold but you definetely get what you pay for with glass.  Now i dont think i buy anything under 300. Before i got loose with money on scopes I would always have good luck with the Bushnells.  For as cheap as they are the clarity is actually pretty good.  I always stuck with the Trophy series I think they now have a series called Legend that is supposed to be a step up.  I think a 4-12X40mm bushnell trophy can be had from midway for about 150 if that is your cap.
