Standing in the fun shop looking to buy a Springfield M1A. They have the loaded for $1660, the standard for $1420, the scout for $1640 or the socom for $1650. Which one do I want? This is pretty much an impulse buy so I haven't given any thought about what range I'll be shooting.
You really want one of each. The SOCOM is a nice compact rifle and I enjoy mine but I have a standard length one with wood stock if done again I would have bought a match grade one. Mine is about a 2 moa gun at 200 and the group stays that size out to at least 600 yds. Just buy one of each. Even if it means waiting until they get one in for you the one with the stainless match grade barrel would be my choice if I only had one. No matter which one you buy you will love it and want another. Just dont shoot any bullets heavier than about a 168 gr in it and look at the Horniday manual for SERVICE RIFLE loading maximums which are lower than other .308 so its 42.7 gr Varget with a 168 gr and if you have other .308's loaded to 44 gr or hotter loads you need to figure a way to keep ammo seperate. Too heavy of a bullet will bend the op rod. BUY ALL OF THEM

Model NA9802 M1a National Match Walnut stock Stainless Steel Barrel If you have to pick from the ones there pick the SOCOM and get one of these later. Buy Smith Vortex flash suppressor for it and a good sling like the ones from Creedmore Sports used in matches. |
I was kinda leaning towards the socom. Unfortunely they only have the display in stock and it's beat. I ask the douche behind the counter if he could knock a couple bucks off of it and he looked at me like I had a dick growing out of my forehead. I think I'm going to have to go elsewhere to satisfy my impulse.
I went to another toy store. The only model they had in stock was the loaded but they had mutiple ones to choose from and the guy that I was dealing with actually had a personality. I got to finger all of them and pick the one I liked the best plus I ended up getting it at I little better price. Thanks for all of the suggestions.
