Ok, so im thinking about selling my bushy AR to get either an M1a or a remington r-15. i have owned a SA M1a a couple years ago and i sold it because i stopped hunting (Ok hunting sux IMO). but now that i moved back to WI, i want to get into hunting again, mostly deer, but eventually coyotes and some other stuff.

i was at my local gander mountain and i looked through a ta31 ACOG for the first time, and i am hooked! my thinking is that i want to use an ACOG on whatever rifle i decide to get, i absolutely love it!

now my question is: does anyone use an ACOG on their M1a? an M1a with no special stocks, just the standard wood/synthetic USGI stock...

i have been thinking and in theory an M1a would be perfect, for one they are a damn fine rifle, two: it is a .308 which is a very good round for hunting nearly all game in WI, and if i could use an ACOG on one without little/if any modifications to the rifle, then that would eequal out to a perfect rifle!

on the other hand, i abolutely love the AR platform, and hunting isn't nessisarily about the round you use, but your shot placement and your ability to make that one shot kill. that is why i was also thinking about getting an R-15. that with an ACOG would be a very familier layout for me and a very comforitable transition from my bushy to the new rifle. i do know use an M1a and love that platform as well, so it wouldnt be like changing to an unfamilier weapon system.

anyways, if you guys could help me out with my decision, and let me know how well an ACOG works on an M1a, i would greatly appreciate it. posting pics of your M1a with an ACOG would help a good bit as well.

Thanks,

Getting an appropriate cheek weld with a M1A/ACOG in a standard configuration stock is reputed to be difficult.  Shooters tend to get the karsten riser or upgrade to a sage-type stock.  From your post, however, it would seem like an AR-10 would suit you––AR-15 platform with a .308 cartridge.
