I have a Socom on order and I finally decided on a Sightron scope. Here is the scope I ordered: Tech specs: Item Number: SII 4-16x42MD Magnification: 4-16x Object Diameter (mm): 42 FOV. Ft. @100Yards: 26-7 Eye Relief (in.): 3.6 Reticle Type: Mil-Dot Target Knobs: Yes Adjustable Objective: Yes Click Value: 1/8 Windage Elevation (in.): 56 Weight(oz.): 16.00 Finish Satin Black Scope Dimensions * all measurements in inches (IN) A: 13.62 B: 6.10 C: 2.79 D: 1.97 E: 3.58 F: 3.94 G: 2.15 H: 1.53 I: 1.00  I'm betting that I will have to take the forward mount off the Socom so I can mount this scope as low as possible. Is it easy to remove the forward mount? I am going to use an ARMs 18 mount and the #22 rings. Can anyone with experience or skilled in math tell me which rings will work with this setup? (keeping the scope as low as possible)  This is also assuming that I remove the forward mount on the Socom. This is my first foray into the M14 style rifle. It is also my first time putting a scope on anything other than putting a cheap scope on a hunting rifle. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |
| I read another post on here where low mounts were too low and medium height mounts were suggested. Are you planning to install another scope base? I noticed that scope has only 3.6" eye relief. It's probably a dumb question since you asked about removing the front mount (you can by removing the allen screws tha attach it). |
 You know I was thinking it was overkill too. But, I like it. Well at least I think I like. I'll find out when it arrives. I wanted mil dot and I wanted a variable and I didn't want a huge objective lens. This one just kinda jumped out at me after looking at many many many scopes. |
I just think it will unbalance what is supose to be a "handy" rifle. |
Do you know how large the outside diameter is on your 42mm scope? If you wouldn't mind could you measure it? In inches? How much room do you have between the bottom of the objective and the top of the handguard? |
