Hey guys, I'm ready for my first can and I'm going to start a build soon, but first I needed u guys input on the quietest setup. I'm not going to hunt or HD with it, just something for me to play with at the range. I would like something nice and short, but not a must have. Should I go with 10" or shorter blackout and subsonic ammo or should get a 762 can for all mine rifle calibers. Just want something real quiet. Helps please

1) is semi auto important? If not, anything bolt, lever, pump, single shot, etc will certainly be quieter all else being equal.
2) Centerfire or rimfire? 22LR et al is going to be the gold standard. If centerfire 300blk is probably the best go to cartridge considering suppressibility , market, options... I'm assuming you want to chase decibels, many of us have, but if you're not my recommendations may not apply. I'm an ex-decibel chaser, certain setups I still appreciate from those days, but I think there are a lot of people like me who've found it preferable to put more emphasis on length, weight, mount, and materials/cleanability than sacrifice any of those for a few decibels. However, it's just one of those life lessons that everyone needs to experience 1st hand, I couldn't be persuaded away from chasing the quiet when I started, that's for sure.. Plan on buying 3 or more silencers. :) |

Just remember <16" barrel is going to require a $200.00 SBR tax stamp also.
A 8"-10" 300 BLK with a good 7.62 can will make a sweet combination. And you could use it on other calibers. Look at the Liberty Leonidas for ideas. I've got the parts just short on time; my AR build is a 8.2" 300 BLK with a SAS Arbiter as the primary can. And as DocBrooks stated bolt action will be the quietest. I guess if you're chasing decibels an 8" 300 BLK on a Rem Model 7 with a full can would be hard to beat with subs. And the .44 Mag integral suppressed holds its own also. A .22 can is a worthwhile investment also. imho it's a requirement. A TACOM 4" .22LR upper with a AAC Element is silly quiet. eta: There's a lot of good cans out there. I'd be interested in looking at a Dead Air 7.62 Sandman-Ti. |

Silencerco Specwar is very quiet and robust, but about a tad longer and heavier than most. A nice price and great value.
Will you only be running a shorty 300 blackout or are there other hosts and calibers you'll want to suppress also? That's where the mount, length and weight really come in. |
