So what's a good choice for a reliable safe and good for the money. It's a secondary safe for overflow so it doesn't have to be huge, maybe 10 rifles and a few handguns if I ever recover them from my boating accident. And suggestions on a decent cost efficient one?

If possible, I'd like to stay $500 and below since its not a "necessity" at this time atleast.

The stuff available in that price range are mostly locking cabinets made of light gauge metal. They might slow somebody down...but not for long.

If it's not a 'necessity'...I'd save my duckets until I could get a more substantial safe.

Just be careful.  You will only be encouraged to fill the second one.. And then the third

Look for sales at Costco and Tractor Supply. They are not the best for keeping out bad guys though.
