I'm wondering if I need to tweak its gas block? I built and lapped another upper, then mounted the Satern 16" barrel w/ their bolt. I messed up the gas block alignment - TWICE (LOL) - before getting it to run. I ran about 20 flawless rounds through it yesterday. What started as a $250 impulse buy for me has turned into... a bit more. But now my son and I will both have a dedicated deer gun that works for the majority of our situations. |

Your first time buying gun parts?  Jokes aside, you've identified why I don't buy cheap stuff anymore (ESPECIALLY when it comes to barrels and bolts). Sometimes it works, but more often than not it leads to headaches, time wasted, and more money. I'm curious to see what your Satern does once its broken in and settled down. Good luck! |

It was a learning experience though and I do have two new uppers to show for the effort and less than $700 out of pocket after it's all said and done. My son will upgrade the Nikon Prostaff scope later down the road. I'll clean both barrels up and run the JB Non-Embedding down them and see where the factory loads take us. Attached File |

Special antlerless season this weekend. 6.5 Grendel first blood w/ the 123 SST. I feel like I can personally do better than the 1.75" groups at 100yds w/ Hornady 123gr. SST, but I took it out anyway this weekend as is. Federal's Fusion 120gr. factory loads also group well. Attached File 30yds. Complete pass through. Dropped in her tracks. Earlier in the day, I was hunting in the woods contemplating getting a LPVO set up to switch to woods hunting when 'needed'. LOL! The Nikon 4.5 x 14 x 40 was on its lowest setting and it worked just fine on this sudden opportunity and quick reaction needed shot. I was easing around some tall grass and spotted this deer w/ its head down below the tops of the been field. Threw the gun to my shoulder and flicked the safety. Her head popped up at me and the bullet immediately dropped her. This was also the first time I've deboned a deer in the field. I don't think I'll ever gut & drag again. |
