This is a new to me CMP rack grade Springfield Armory M1 I just purchased. It looks to me to have the original barrel, and the only part I see that is not SA is the bolt, which is WRA. The muzzle number is 5+ and the throat number is 4. I originally bought it to just shoot every now and then, and of course for the historical aspect. I went to the CMP North store to buy it, and the National Matches just happened to be going on. I am now thinking I would like to compete next year, and I know the barrel I have now would not be very accurate. I bought a new production Criterion 30 06 barrel from the CMP and am looking for  a local gunsmith to install it. My question is the configuration of the rifle as it is now collectable? If I looked at the numbers correctly the receiver was made in November of 1943 and the barrel in April of 1943. Thanks for the responses.

Screw on a good barrel and sights and go shoot it. Keep the old parts. Look up the rules for the Garand match.

Best thing I ever did was replace the barrel on my CMP Rack Grade.

I cannot see any of your photos because I do not have (and do not want) a Google account to sign into.

Shoot as-is and see if it is accurate enough for your purposes.  Don't assume the gauge is anything other than a number.

Most rack grades are too rough and the parts too mixed up to be highly valued to a collector so unless yours is special in some way it will be in the shooter category.

My opinion is the barrel is a wear item and replacing a worn out barrel with a new one won’t affect the value of a rack grade shooter. Might actually increase the value if it shoots well.

Keep the old barrel and it can be put back on if you think it increases the resale.
